Had a very successful Personal Protection Class 3/5-6/10

Post by Doug Bowser on Sun Mar 07, 2010 12:29 pm

We had 27 participants. It is gratifying to me to be part of this progam. We had a Lady that attended the class and she brought her S&W snub nosed .38 loaded to the shooting day. She did not know how to load or unload it. Her Son gave her the revolver and gave her no instructions. Whe she lef the class she said: "I am cinfident that I can operate this revolver properly and shoot it accurately enough to protect myself."

There were 3 other Women at the class, who never fired a firearm before. We have made several allies to our cause of fighting gun control. There were 4 men there that had never fired a handgun before.

We fired .22 semi-auto pistols and .38 revolvers. The revolvers were K framed S&W sevice revolvers. The .38 ammo was loaded with 125 gr FP lead bullets and 3 gr of Titegroup. It is a load that is very accurate and lthe recoil is light. It is a good load to start a new shooter in firing the .38 revolver.

Doung -- 27 I would classify as a great turn-out!! Especially since many had never fired a weapon before ... Most from MS or LA?

All from Mississippi. I am suprised at this fact. A class is required for a Louisiana CCW. Most of the classes in Louisiana are more than $150. Our class is 45.

Nice work Doug ! ! !

Your club does so much for juniors and the general public. And for us competitors...........

$150 in LA.......... Sounds like someone is making big $$$ off the CCW program...........

This is the only reason I object to training being required for the issuance of a CCW. Florida requires training but they will accept a Hunter's Safety Class. In Louisiana, they require that the class be retaken every 4 years. You must keep up the job security.

THe only bad thing is some people dont have a since of personal responsibility. Its like giving a 90 year old a renewed drivers license. Yes some 90 year olds can still drive , but some need to be tested again ...their vision etc. ONe of my instructors had a lady call and say I would like to become an instructor. He said HMMM whats your background in firearms. She said I dont own one yet, but I am buying one and want to teach others soon.
