Re: Natchez Trace / PARK CARRY Bills Update
Website has been updated now to show it has passed:
http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2010/pdf/history/HB/HB0298.xml
I don't think it HAS to go back to committee, but the House might request to do it. Yes, the first time it was in Judiciary A, don't know if they would have to send it back to the same committee or not. This is all new to me. I'm hoping it just has to be voted on by the entire House, we might make it if so.
I'm sure the Senate will approve SB 2862 when it comes back, I'm just hoping the House approves HB 298 since the language is better. Either way, I'm feeling pretty good about carrying in parks.

Agreed and I'm hoping for HB 298 as well. It will really irk me if they continue to deny churches the same right to decide this issue as they give to businesses.

In JUD A, Philip Gunn is pro-gun and wants this bill to pass. Don't know about Chairman Blackmon. Bill may have to go to Conference - 3 House and 3 Senate for discussion/compromise/agreement and then released to House floor for vote.

Speaker mMcCoy is the original author of hb298. I would think that any chairman of a house committee would keep this bill alive. Talk to and call your reps! Phillip Gunn is my rep and I know he is on board.

MS CCW bill
Senate Bill 2153, to remove many places prohibited from licensed CCW, died Tuesday in the House Jud B Committee, chaired by Rep. Willie Bailey. This was an excellent bill. However, the same language was inserted by the Senate Appropriations Committee into House Bill 298, which had previously passed the House, and the Senate passed their version on Thursday. This bill will now go to a conference committee.
Another provision removing ONLY public parks from the prohibition was inserted into Senate Bill 2862. None of the other prohibited places were removed. Municipalities and counties can still ban CCW from their own parks. This bill passed the House Wednesday. This bill will also go to a conference committee.
Since a version of parks carry has now passed both houses, it is a fairly solid assumption that we will at least get that.

hb298 passed the senate as amemded. It now goes back to the house. They can pass as amended or not. If not, then it will go to a conference committee. Billly mcCoy's bill, I think it will pass the house. If so, then it goes to govenor. Call your reps and ask for their support. If this passes, then call them and THANK them.

I might be wrong but I think it goes back to the full house. If they approve then it goes straight to guv's desk. If not then it will go to a conference committee. Not 100% but I think this is correct. Either way, Monday morning we need to be burning our reps phones up.

Senate vote was 51 to zip. Lets hope the house can get its act together and get this passed as is. Make life alot easier for concealed carry. Call your rep if you haven't yet. Thanks, Bruce.

Emailed and called my rep yesterday but did not get to talk directly to him on the phone so I left a message. Haven't heard anything back from him yet. The House calendar has HB 298 as the 27th item on docket today so it is possible they could get to it before the end of the week.

Re: Natchez Trace / PARK CARRY Bills Update
Provided by Mississippi Firearms Owners Association
------------------------------------------------
HB 298, which would have removed most places from the prohibited list for licensed CCW, was passed by the House, then sent to the Senate which gutted all but the "parks" provision and also passed it. Next, it went to a House/Senate conference committee, which has reinstated the good parts, removing most of the prohibited places.
Hopefully, this bill will now pass both houses. This is a good time to contact your own state senator and representative and urge their votes and support for this bill's language.
This is a very good bill, probably the best gun bill that has seen the light of day in Mississippi since the original permit law was passed.
SB 2862, which now removes only the parks restriction, is also still alive and has been returned from the House to the Senate for its concurrence.

Re: Natchez Trace / PARK CARRY Bills Update
The Jud A chairman just recommended "Do not concur, invite conference" for HB 298. I guess they'll have some closed door negotiations on it now.
Captain-03, the senate did not gut this bill, they added the amendment to lift the restrictions on concealed carry. HB 298 said nothing about CCW when it passed the House.
The Senate did not address SB 2862 today during the 41 minutes they were in session.
