Re: Need help choosing a revolver
Can't help on the holster because I pocket carry. But if she carrys in a purse it needs to be in it's own pouch with nothing else
in it (xd357)
Agree completely w/ the above - if it's for purse carry it needs to be riding along all by itself - no brushes, combs, or anything else that might catch the trigger and blow a hole in an otherwise perfectly good purse. Do a search for concealed carry purses - you'll find a boatload of them designed for just this purpose -

Her plan is to use a CC purse with a dedicated pouch and a holster for IWB, so no worries. I would never advocate carrying loose in a purse or pocket. Ask Plaxico what happens
The newer S&W revolvers are not well machined and they have a pressed in barrel in lieu of a barrel with screw threads. The older revolvers have a pin that locks the barrel in place at the top of the frame, where the barrel screws into it.

And how does a press in barrel affect reliability? How many have fallen out or loosened. How many threaded ones have losened? I'm assuming they needed the pin to keep it from loosening.
Hmm...it sounds like they were able to remove an extra part, lower manufacturing costs and time, and all without affecting reliability. I have no problem with that.

I hate it, too. Mainly because it's simply not needed and more parts mean a higher potential for failure. I also hate it because they drew a stupid little L with an arrow that makes it look like the frame is scratched from arms length away.
The new ones don't have em now...Lots of "controversy" over whether or not they have issues....I've spoken to 2 gunsmiths who say...no worries....S&W said the same thing....so why did they go back to not putting them on?
They didn't stop, did they? They just offer both because of customer demand...I think. I also imagine the lock is to satisfy some liberal state laws somewhere. I'm not worried about it causing problems and will probably never use it. That 47lb trigger and some brains are safety enough.

I said I couldn't help with the holster but I guess I should have said I can't help you with that gun. I'd look into Tucker gun leather for a good holster. Top tier stuff. Plus don't over look a belt with IWB holsters it's just as important to have a "gun" belt. A good belt will make all the diffrance in the world.
Good luck.
Good luck.

You are preaching to the choir on that one, XD. I pocket carry when I don't have a sturdy leather belt on. You are 100% correct, makes all the difference in the world. Like, the difference between losing it and not losing it. A good IWB should have a tab on the clip for catching on the bottom of the belt IMO. It's especially important when wearing an undershirt tucked in.

Galco used to make some actual purses with carry in mind. Smith & Wesson makes a line of Lady Smith pistols with attractive stocks on them. The stocks may be available seperately. If not check with Hogue on some Cocobolo stocks. There is another good company on stocks, but can't remember the name right now. I'm sure that there is a number of small time stock makers that could fill your needs as well.
