ICORE firearms?

kinda like the topic says. What do folks go with? Smith performance center? Six shooter, or eight shot? What caliber?

What kind of price range firearms they shoot with? Seen some of those race guns that looked like they cost of pretty penny. Other than that, for competion only, I'd go with the 38, reasonable recoil for follow up shots. You going to shoot in the open class? That looks like it could get costly. Good shooting.

I couple Smith PC's caught my eye one was a 6 shot 45acp because I already have tons of brass, bullets, and powder. Second was a 8 shot 38 super I don't exactly have tons of 38 super stuff laying around but I got enough to make it interesting to me

I used my old model 28 (n frame .357 6 shot) for a long time. Then I found a 625 (45 acp that takes moonclips) at a good price and started using it. I now have a 627 (8 shot mooncliped .357) but I have yet to make it over to shoot a match with it. Maybe in Nov.

I am guessing there is some advange to 38 super if Cliff switched to it, but for us mere mortals it is like Neck said, whatever you got that is double action and 38 or better is good to go. Spend the money after you figure out what is going on. Moonclips are faster, but there are always going to be that one person that can reload with speedloaders faster than most of us can a clipped gun. A lighter trigger pull is faster, but you have to have soft primers if you get real light. I do better with big adjustable sights (took my short barreled model 65 one time, didn't do that again). Of course you don't need anything hotter than target loads. Glen probably would have a discussion with anyone using magnum loads on his steel. Besides all that recoil is going to slow you down. If you are going to shoot in Byrum, if you let Cliff or Glen know ahead of time, they can find you loaner gear if you do not have enough equipment.

As far as the gun goes. I really like shooting the 627 and I think it will be a fine ICORE rig, but I love shooting the 625.

the "gun to have" is an 8 shot of either 38 super or 38/357.

Iron sights and no"ports" on the barrel put you in Limited. Open is anything else. There is a new "retro" division also. It is iron sights, six shot with speedloaders. NO moonclips.

ICORE is supposed to be "6 gun neutral" and usually is but in an all steel array of 6 it sure is nice to have 2 extra shots (or one if you're using a 7 shot like the 686+)

when the powder clears it's all about having fun shooting with other revolver shooters and making the memories and fun times.

Cliffs gun itself is just over a grand. THe rest of the stuff is what starts adding up. ICORE is much cheaper than some other sports to be competitive in...that is if you dont shoot open class. Metallic sight or Limited is usually fairly cheap (with the exception of limited USPSA). For a very competitive rig in ICORE limited you are looking at 2k for uspsa probably 5-8k depending if you bring a back up gun, Action pistol 4k.

This is an old topic. I have since added a custom open class revo to my collection but have yet to shoot it in a match. Gotta get my house built first.

It would seem to me that an 8 shot moon-clipped 9mm revolver would be the heat, but no one makes one, right? Shorter rounds would reload slightly easier than .38 Super and brass would be significantly cheaper. If it was actually designed around the 9, the cylinder could be shorter too, giving less mass for better trigger pulls. Isn't that right?

While the 625 or 25 that Sam (Hopalong) shoots may not be "THE" gun to have for ICORE, they are pretty much "THE" gun for USPSA revolver and I would think would be the best choice if you wanted to do both with one gun.

I hate drifting this thread and I can't really speak to ICORE or Action pistol, but I don't agree with these numbers for USPSA Limited division:

A very competitive rig in USPSA Limited division can be had for significantly less. I'm not in that range with my complete rig and the gun is a full custom with my initials in the serial number and lightening cuts that I designed, neither of which were necessary to be competitive.

i know there are guys shooting HOT 38s&w(not specials) loads but im not that anal about case length
