Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club
January ICORE Match
On Saturday, January 23, 2010, seventeen shooters found the unusually warm January day a great opportunity to get out and shoot five courses of fire. There were twelve revolvers enthusiasts, 5 semi-auto pistols and four new shooters, which consisted of Lady Shooter Jinny Shramek, two Law Enforcement Shooters James Adams, Shelby Cannon, and Jim Lowman.
When I got to Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club at 7 am, I found Cliff Cargill had been there since 6:30 am and Matt Moorer were already busy working, as well as Pat Deberry . It was great to see all of the great shooters showing up and helping with setup, stage buckets and getting other necessities ready. I had to leave about 7:30am to attend 3 hours of Boy Scout Adult Leadership Training and was able to return by 11 am, gear up and join a squad on Stage 2, then quickly shoot Stage 1 before heading to Stage 5 to catch the squad there in order to shoot thru, shot stage 3 and then started entering the scores from the stages. I certainly did miss visiting with all the shooters and felt like I was shirking my responsibilities as self appointed shooting ambassador, perhaps I will have more time next match.
I want to give special thanks to Todd Lancaster and Tom Sutton who tore down Stages 1-4, by themselves. Actually I accused Sutton of doing all the work as Lancaster drove his truck and worked Sutton like they were loading square bales of hay. Lancaster would drive through the stage while Sutton would load the stage props, then bring it all back to the barn where they would unload the equipment. Tommy Cabell and Bud Berthold did an excellent job of calculating the additional time on the score sheets for Bravo , Charlie hits, and Misses, while I input the data, then Cabell finished that while Berthold RO’d me through Stage 4 while the last squad shot Stage 5.
Stage 1 Classifier CS-025 Run Billy, Run Bill, Run William was set up on the 100 yard range behind the 50 yard berm and consisted of 3 targets shot with Target 1 engaged with 6 shots from Box A, Target 2 engaged with 6 shots from Box B and Target 3 engaged with 6 shots from Box C, shots limited. This stage was won by Todd Lancaster (Limited) followed by Tommy Cabell (Limited), Cliff Cargill (Limited), and Scott Womack (Limited), all shooting Smith & Wesson 627 8-shot .38 Super Revolvers.
Stage 2 Classifier CS-002 Speed Racer was set up on the 50/100 yard range and consisted of 6 targets engaged with one shot each from Box A, Box B, and Box C, shots limited. This stage was won by Todd Lancaster (L), followed by Tommy Cabell (L), Scott Womack (L), and Matt Moorer (L).
Stage 3 Classifier CS-028 In A Bad Spot was set up on the 25 yard with the Bianchi Barricade and consisted of six targets engaged with 2 shots each, shots limited. This was repeated for two strings, for 24 total shots. This stage was won by Todd Lancaster (L), followed by Matt Moorer (L), Cliff Cargill (L), and Bud Berthold (L-6-shot).
Stage 4 Should I Stay or Should I Go consisted of 6 Pepper Poppers shot from Box A and 6 US Poppers shot from Box B, shots unlimited. The stage was set up on the west side of the 25 yard range. This stage was won by Todd Lancaster (L), followed by Bud Berthold (L), Matt Moorer (L), and Scott Womack (L).
Stage 5 Outer Limits was a Steel Challenge stage setup on the back 40 range. This stage consisted of 2 18x24 inch rectangles at 35 yards, 2 -12 inch plates at 20 yards, and a 12 inch stop plate at 18 yards with 3 boxes set 6 feet apart from one another, set parallel to the stage. This stage was won by Cliff Cargill (L), followed by Todd Lancaster (L), Tommy Cabell (L), and Matt Moorer (L)
When the gun smoke cleared the January ICORE Match Limited Division was won by Todd Lancaster (L), followed by Tommy Cabell (L), Cliff Cargill (L), and Bud Berthold (L). Semi-auto pistol Division was won by Jonathan Selman (S), James Adam (S), Robert McFarland (S), and Shelbey Cannon (S). High Lady was won by Jinnie Shramek who was shooting a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow 9mm at her first ICORE match.
There will be a Level 1 Range Officers class in Byram, MS on February 20-21, 2010 if anyone is interested in becoming a Range Officer, please send me a reply for additional information. Day 1 is classroom; Day 2 is spent on the range with the final test being an open book take home. This class will do more to help you understand the rules and train you to help with the Range Officers duties. My son Steven (12) is planning to attend the class, so you can do this too!
Thanks for coming out to enjoy a day of shooting and thanks for all of the help in setting up and tearing down the stages. Hope to see the new shooters back who all did well, just remember if you didn’t feel like you did as well as you thought you could, I think all the new shooters did great and there is always room for improvement. When a Karate student goes to their first class, they are neither the Instructor nor the Grand Master, same in shooting. Come back, we’re always glad to help you in any way possible to help you realize that you have skills that can be developed through repetition.
Next ICORE match is Sunday, February 21, the next shooting match is IPSC on Sunday February 7, Outlaw Steel will be Saturday February 13, and Cowboy Action in Mendenhall on February 20. Mark your calendar, Magnolia Rifle and Pistols Club members, for the Annual Meeting scheduled for Saturday March 6, 2010. Results for the January ICORE Match are found below with times for each stage.
Range Is Clear!

Scott Womack
