Re: Custom 308 from Thomas Bullock Surplus City Clinton
thx
I selected each piece on this one..even the bolt handle and knob...Only thing that aint just perfect is the reticle on the NF scope....Its a NP-1RR...It wasn't my 1st pick for a reticle but since I got a pretty good deal on it used I decided I'd live with it..Its a long range hunting, varmit reticle...Now I just gotta learn how to use the scope properly and get better at my rifle reloading...I got a long ways to go...

Hard Life you got there, 'Neck!! I'm just glad I don't have to make those tough calls. You really shouldn't deprive yourself of the exact reticle you want. Having different ones will just be confusing. Go get the one you want and I'll do you a favor and get rid of that one for you.

Re: Custom 308 from Thomas Bullock Surplus City Clinton
NF will change out a reticle for a C note so it aint that big a deal
Its NF's version of a range finding reticle...lots of MOA adjustment up and down...with a type of BDC along the bottom you can use for estimation...
Not matter what the scope you gotta shot that mutha and right down your dopes...its on my TO DO list....for about 15 different bolt rifles...I'll get there one day...
what I need to do is go on a nice prairie dog hunt for a week...averaging about 400 shots a day and I might get the hang of it...who's up for a trip..? Most expensive part is the barrels you burn and the ammo
Back on this particular rifle....Thomas was a real pleasure to work with....I told him generally what I was looking for...a F class gun that was also capable hunting if needed...
It need to have a tacti-cool look. I think I managed to get pretty close on all three.
Folks we got some good rifle builders in central, MS...don't let anyone fool ya
speaking of rifle builders...anyone seen or heard from Eddybo lately

That is one really nice rifle. Some of us are suffering along with factory Remingtons and H&R's!

Take your Factory Remington 700 and put in a Jewel trigger or a Rifle Basics trigger and have it set to 1.5 lbs...
Your gun will be "custom" then...and its probably one of the simplest ways you can reduce your groups....RB triggers installed are about $175
Jewel's about $250
Its hard to shoot super tight groups with a 8 - 10 lb trigger...it just aint happening

My trigger has been improved. I went the DIY route. It shoots pretty well for factory. My best so far was .6360 at 200 yards with reloads. I definitely want to put a new stock on it!

Re: Custom 308 from Thomas Bullock Surplus City Clinton
That group I posted measured under 1/2 inch and that's with a new barrel not broken in....and some "test" reloads...
showed it to gunsmith last night and He just grinned and said..."It will get better"...can't wait for that
I aint a real big fan of "home made" trigger jobs...shoot one of these RB's or Jewels....and I'd swear you'd never shoot a homemade or factory trigger again....
Same way for a NF scope....you'll never look at a Nikon or Leupold the same way again...cept maybe a Leupold Mark IV...I do like those...next stop US Optics...or Schmit and Bender...Nah I'll never be able afford one of those
Its like crack...!
Good Luck with it
