Tha wait is on...... CCW Permit
Well I filed the paperwork, paid the "tax", and jumped through all the hoops.
As of noon yesterday, I officially "applied" for a permit to "bear arms" in public.
Sure hope the holidays don't push the 45 days into 3 months.

The 45 days is more of a designated wait period than it is how long it actually takes to do all of the checking and filing. You'll be fine

As I understand it, the permit is itself is actually ready almost immediately. The office just holds it for the maximum allowed time and then mails it to you.
Mine took a little longer to receive, but that's because the office didn't put our APT # on the envelope and didn't bother to contact me when it was returned to them.

I took my application to Starkville on Dec. 23 and was told that it would take 3 months.I hope it doesn't take that long though.

By law its says issue or deny You one in 45 days. That's the way I understand it. It was signed into law by the Govenor of MS. I don't know who told You 120 days, but I think they are wrong.hawkeye1142 wrote:I took my application to Starkville on Dec. 23 and was told that it would take 3 months.I hope it doesn't take that long though.

They have 45 days to issue or deny. If it takes more than that, pm me and I will write a letter for you.

About 2 renewals ago when i got my permit, it took 120 days to the day. Congrats on taking that important step. When you get it, make that famous trip to your local wal mart to get the feel of carrying a conceld weapon in public. Also when you buy a gun, show permit and usually the dealer dont even call your infomation in to feds. but you still fill out paper work. once again, congrats

I was wrong.I submitted my application on Dec. 30 instead of Dec. 23.But that's only a weeks difference, right? The lady who took my application was the one who told me that it would take 3 months and a note attatched to the application stated the same thing.

I was pretty sure I read "45 days" in the MS CODE also.
Hope they haven't started violating their law by way of some administrative "procedures/policies".
I'm not unfamiliar with carrying.
I already do it all the time.
Just would be better if done "legally" instead of by "special circumstance" that many LEO's and citizens would not even know about.
I may enjoy the "walmart walkabout" a lot more WITH the permit.
As things are now, I worry about being "made" and having to explain myself.

what kind of 'note' was attached to the application? if i remember correctly, the laws that the DPS are passing out are the old laws. I have attempted to have them correct the law that they have listed on their website and have failed. I received a letter from the commissioner and he says that they have no control over their website to update the laws.
The law is 45 days. If it takes longer than that, let me know.

I will for sure.
Thanks for your support.
It has been less than 30 for me right now.
Re: Tha wait is on...... CCW Permit
This is what was typed on the Permit instructions sheet:
"GUN PERMITS ARE PROCESSED ON THURSDAY ONLY,EXCEPT FOR HOLIDAYS.THE HOURS ARE FROM 9:OO A.M. UNTIL 12:OO NOON.THE FEE FOR THE FIRST TIME IS $132.OO.THIS FEE CAN BE PAID IN THE FORM OF CASH,MONEY ORDER,CASHIER'S CHECK OR CERTIFIED CHECK.THE GUN PERMIT IS GOOD FOR 5 YEARS,AND IT IS A 2 TO 3 MONTH WAITING PERIOD."
Keep in mind that this application was picked up at the Starkville
MSHP office. It is possible that this was printed prior to the revised 45 day waiting period.
