Post by msredneck on Thu Jun 18, 2009 2:13 pm

As a general rule, I'm not a big fan of IWB holsters....However I'm contemplating giving this one a try with my XDM 40....I'll let you know how it goes....$65 till july 1 Tucker Gun Leather

If you like IWB's post what you like here...I like leather or horse hide...not kydex

I use IWB's exclusively. I just haven't found a better way to carry, stripped down to shorts and a T-shirt in the summer. Shoulder rigs and OWB's require some kind of cover shirt at a minimum, and I'd rather not. Ankle holster just ain't practical for my choice of CCW (1911 or clone).

I liked the Nick Matthews holsters for their severe rake; those holsters would cant the grip "almost" vertically, allowing better concealment. It does suffer from a lack of a reinforced mouth, though, making it hard to reholster one-handed. And in this heat, I found that the 'sweat shield' was a little too skimpy also, so I requested a custom-sized shield with mouth reinforcement and got no cooperation there, so I went to AKJ Concealco and he fabricated this:

http://www.concealco.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ACL&Product_Code=SG-IWBS&Category_Code=051IWB

He liked it so much he added it to his production line. (I really do have the first 'prototype'). It doesn't have the severe cant that is found on the Matthews holster, but it's constructed better and conceals "well enough" (NM has only been making holsters for ~1 1/2 - 2 years though he's improved a lot since his first offerings) .

I've tried two of the Milt Sparks IWBs--the Watch Six and the VersaMax II--the Six has a flimsy mouth too, and though the VersaMax II solves that problem, it printed because it didn't hold the gun close enough to me. Bulman Gunleather's PDL printed, empty(!!), so I'll sell it whenever I get around to it.

I guess for my money, I'd recommend the AKJ or NM holsters for their ability to pull the gun in towards the body tighter than most.

I'd like to find a local dealer for Don Hume. Son had one for his sig 45 single stack and I couldn't tell it until he showed me. Anyone know a local dealer, I'd like to keep my money in the state.

I love my don hume. I got this model because I can slip it in and out of my belt with no problem, but it's also very secure. I got it in a left handed carry and carry my little compact in the center of my back. I can reach and grab it very easily and quickly with my right hand. Check it out:

I cannot believe that someone has not brought up the Super Tuck From Crossbreed.

http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/

I tried a few models from other operations and this one was the best for me. The fit is great. You really dont even know that it is there most of the time. You can adjust the camber as well as the height. It took me some time to get it just right. I carry a sub compact xd .40 with no troubles. I can ware cargo pants and a t shirt and not print. The cons with most of the IWB is you have to have a GOOD belt. Dont buy a cheap old navy belt and expect it to work well. The other con is I still have not found a "dress belt" that works well with my work slacks.

That my friend is why they make Chocolate and Vanilla. My supertuck was stiff when I got it but after a week of using it, it was nice and supple. My holster does not stick out. I ware mine at about 4:00 and it blends right in.

I use a Galco U.D.C. for my .38 snubby Taurus. It is tuckable and the only part you can see is the up turned lip that holds it under the belt as you draw. Works great for me! Just my opinion though.

I also am a Crossbreed fan for IWB. I guess it just depends on the body. I have tried other cheaper ones but they were all crap. Also Mark, the owner, is a super cool guy that has excellent customer service. You may find that it is not right for you but you will never hear a bad thing about how he handles things. Very professional. My first supertuck had plastic clips and I did go through a few but they were always covered and mostly by my own fault. I just ordered another for my Glock 32 and got a smokin' deal ($35) and its horsehide. thumbs up I will post a pic as soon as it arrives. I found out that he sells seconds/blems for a lot less $ on HDtalk---> http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/crossbreed-holsters/109069-crossbreed-seconds-blems.html
I'm sure yall may already know this but I did not and during these times I need to save as much cash as possible for ammo! He has em for all types listed not just XD's and Glocks.

I mostly ware it with jeans and cargo shorts. About 50/50 tucked and untucked. I can ware it with slacks but I still dont have a belt that works well and looks good with slacks. With slacks they look fine but my dress belt wants to sag.

well i just orderd the horsehide crossbreed w/ jhooks. for my 1911's. I hope it will work for what i need. I have to have tuckable as i wear dress slacks and button down or a golf shirt tucked in at work everyday and cant have the gun be all that obvious. Hope this will fit the bill. will post on my thoughts once i get it and wear it for awhile.

I love my comptac MTAC holster for IWB carry. It hides my Glock 23 without a problem and does not print at all.

I like my crossbreed, but that 1911 gets heavy after awhile. My problem is that the weight wants to pull my pants down, even tho I have a good belt. I am constantly having to readjust the rig cause of this.
