First try with leather...

Post by Eaglestroker on Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:55 pm

I learned how to do a little leather work over the weekend, I'm somewhat proud of this for my first attempt thumbs up

Thanks, I had some good help of course. I made a much more simple version for my compact but decided to stain it so you guys will have to wait for pictures on that one. I figured these would make a PIF when I get a little better with.

Looks professional. Show us the tools you used to make them and where you bought them. I would like to make one myself.

They were my grandfathers so I'll have to get back over there for pictures, I did a bit of research and unless you hand stitch these your looking at big money!

Me, too. I'd probably be interested in buying one or two of them, if you were to go into production.Smile

I don't, but I will be sure to take pictures of the next one!

If your asking how the pistol sits it is very tight. The aluminum blank used is a tad smaller than a production gun for a snug fit.

I only have an aluminum 1911 blank at the moment, for anything else I would need the gun to measure. If anybody wants one this is simply a hobby I wasn't expecting anyone to want to purchase one! If interested just let me know and I'm sure I could work something out.

Really nice. That is a good trade to have when we go back to the barter system.

Alright guys, I put in an order for some new tools and some new leather to try a few ideas I have. After doing some research I don't feel this is to the level of me offering them for sale - I'll update the thread as I continue on!

Some people appreciate the local handcrafting feature and don't get hung up on seam spacing and stuff like that. It would be neat for me to have one just because it wasn't mass-produced.
