Self defense is a major issue for a lot of folks out there. I think that high profile events like in Arizona made people more aware. It's too bad people had to die in order for our citizenry to realize that restricting gun ownership and use might be a bad idea.

It is not always a wise thing to put decisions in the hands of local officials. Sometimes the decisions they make just don't make sense. I was raised in a state where the local county government decided they wanted their county dry while most of the surrounding counties were wet. I think our county's residents were the major supporter of the liquor stores and beer joints in the other counties. Not only were the highways loaded with DUI drivers on weekends, but all the money spent stayed in those counties as well. Local government at it's best? I don't believe so.

Here, we only have dry counties for the fear that the deacons and preachers might see us in the liquor stores or at the bars....most likely buying their own....

Brother Jake - A bit off the subject, indulge for a moment please. But I was one of those that went to the church and the liquor store with equal enthusiam. Never really understood why us church people think it will keep the county safer if liquor is not sold in our town. I thank the good Lord that I finally outgrew the drinking part and not the church part. Okay, I'm finished.
Regards,
Howard

Are we expecting them to do anything with the bill or just let it die?

I'm expecting them to do nothing. There are 31 co-authors to this bill in the senate. That's 32 of 51 Senators, with all 51 voting YES for it. I think that is impressive. That's a lot of people to be on the Jud. B chairman's bad side if he doesn't let it out of committee. He probably doesn't care what the House thinks, though.

Let's remember who is in Jud B:

Judiciary B
Willie Bailey, Chairman; Bob Evans, Vice-Chairman
Members: Noal Akins; Sidney Bondurant; Cecil Brown; Kimberly Campbell Buck; Clara Burnett; Alyce G. Clarke; Mark DuVall; Jim Ellington; Harvey Fillingane; Frances Fredericks; Joe C. Gardner; Brandon Jones; Sherra Hillman Lane; W. T. Mayhall, Jr.; John Mayo; Warner F. McBride; Sam C. Mims, V; Alex Monsour; John L. Moore; Willie J. Perkins, Sr.; Ferr Smith; Jeffrey C. Smith; Adrienne Wooten

My rep., Mr. Akins, will be sure to hear from me, and a few others. Maybe they should hear from you too.

I had already talked to mark duvall and he said he was in support of this bill. He also went on record (against party leadership) saying if he is re elected he would not vote for mc coy as speaker again, but would push for a more conservative, gun friendly speaker that would appoint more gun friendly chairs. Would he go as far as voting for someone as speaker with a (R) or an (J) by their name, I don't know. I think ill ask him...

He told me the same thing. Of the 50 something emails I sent to various senators and congressmen, including every senator in Jud Com B, Duvall was one of 2 to respond to my emails. The other was the author of the bill, Fillingane(sp?)

This died in House committee Jud-B. It had already passed the Senate. The Senate is not the problem, it is the House.
