Using M44 Safety
bonedust75 wrote:The only thing I really dont care for is the safety on the gun.
The safety is easier to use if you place the butt of the rifle in the crook of your arm before applying or taking it off. It gives more leverage to your fingers.

Got my eye on one of these at the pawn shop. It is a hex reciever in excellent cond, when I laughed at the $260 price tag - it was then offered to me for $150. I walked. Might make another run at him next week.

Haha yeah, the Russians weren't very concerned with safeties, I can only imagine their response to soldiers complaints about the safety... "SAFETY?! Is gun, is supposed to be dangerous!" They are great rifles tho... I own several.bonedust75 wrote:The only thing I really don't care for is the safety on the gun.

If you can find one of the Polish M-44's they are the best looking of the breed. Someone a few years back was offering three M-44's for like $250. It was a mix of Hungarian, Chinese, Russian, or some other Combloc country.
If you can, and have an area you can do it Shoot a M-44 at night. The ball of fire that comes out at night is awsome. Heck if you didn't hit them with the projectile you would burn them with the flame. LOL!

Yep -- Classic Arms seems to offer a lot of different things in hard chrome -- like AKs!

Since the Gras rifle was made, the French did not have safeties on their rifles until the Model 1944 semi-auto rifle was built.
The Russian safety is easy to apply and take off if you put the butt of tyhe stock in the crook of your arm before operating it. It is a very positive safety.

I read your post on applying the safety. I'll have to try it that way. In the type of shooting I've done with mine applying the safety wasn't ever an issue anyway. I was just kind of poking fun at the design and the commie way of thinking on it. I do like my M44 it's a Polish and hoot to shoot.

I have had a very bad problem since I bought my first 1930 Mosin Nagant 91/30 with hex receiver, I now have mosinitis and it only can be controlled, not cured, by buying at least one mosin type weapon every 6 months. These shops normally have a good stock of 91/30’s M38, M39 etc. The 91/30's in very good to excellent condition can be had for between $90 to $150 in these parts..

I understand... I bought my tenth Nagant today.chuckusaret wrote:I have had a very bad problem since I bought my first 1930 Mosin Nagant 91/30 with hex receiver, I now have mosinitis and it only can be controlled, not cured, by buying at least one mosin type weapon every 6 months.................
Nothing special, just a decent round receiver 91/30 Tula made gun. An hour later I located a beater Chinese Type 53 at my favorite pawn shop. I don't own a Chinese gun and I'm REAL tempted to pick it up. It'd go nice with my collection of M-39s, M44s, 91/30s, laminated stocks, Dragoons, hex receivers, etc. and fill a void in the collection.
Here's six of my ten Nagants. Missing are a pair of M-44s still in the box, today's purchase, and my hex receiver 1944 Sako M-39.

Crappy photo of my nicest Dragoon. This one really is a nice gun with deep, crisp markings and all matching numbers to include the mag floor plate which are often forced matched.

Re: M-44 Mosin Nagent Rifle
I see that I need a few more of these .... Anyone got any leads on some good deals?

The receiver in the above photo reads
Izhevsk
Armaments
Factory
It is a Commie Dragoon rifle perhaps converted to 91/30. It is one of the rarer rifles. If it has been converted it will have the standard tangent curve sight, as found on the 91/30 rifle. It has a metal refinish mark on it. The square above th4 serial number.

Thanks Doug!
I thought the hammer mark on the receiver and the star on the barrel indicated a Tula gun. It looks like the gun pictured below from the indentification section on the 7.62x54r.net site. They state it's a Tula Arsenal Nagant.

Tula "CCCP" pre-1928 Soviet M91 or Dragoon.
