Re: Highpower Match / Course of Fire
We use the John C. Garand Match Course B which consists of:
10 sighters from any position (shooters shoot five rounds, walk down after the line is determined to be safe, then return to the line and shoot five more to make final adjustments).
Targets are taken down and new ones put up.
20 rounds in 20 minutes from the prone position. Single fire or full magazine/clips can be used at the shooters preference. Line is made safe and everyone walks down and the targets are scored and put new ones up and everyone then returns to the firing line.
10 rounds from the standing position to prone position in 80 seconds (used to be 70 seconds) with a clip/magazine change. Line is made safe, targets are scored and new targets put up.
10 rounds from the standing position to sitting or kneeling position in 70 seconds (used to be 60 seconds) with a clip/magazine change. Line is made safe, targets are scored and new targets put up.
10 rounds in the standing position in 10 minutes. No slings can be used to stabilize the rifle during this portion. Single fire or full magazines are permitted at the shooters preference. Line is made safe, targets are scored and then stands and equipment are loaded up.
Handloads are permitted at our matches along with any military style rifles (including AR-15, M1A, etc.) with iron sites.

A note about the rapid fire stages: CMP still has shooters "rise" and only get into position on command, but NRA High Power rules changed a year + ago to have shooters start in position, and only insert magazines on command. This was done for safety reasons; if you've ever been at a match at which a shooter had an AD while going from standing to sitting or standing to prone, you will understand why this change was made!

That is why Magnolia requires the safety NOT be taken off until in position.

Looking forward to the matches! Question: would an M59/66 (SKS) be allowed?

Sure. SKSs..... AKs.... etc. As long as it is a military rifle with iron sights.

Why do we use the JCG course B when we have regular high power matches? Everywhere else shooting regular high power matches, not JCG matches, starts with standing and ends with prone. I'm not sure why JCG matches are run backwards but I'd love to get sloppy standing over with first while I'm still fresh and the heat isn't so bad. I'm not causing a fuss, just asking. I'll shoot 'em anyway they are offered!
