Project vote smart

Post by jakeg823 on Sat Feb 05, 2011 7:32 pm

Pretty nifty!! You just enter in your zip and it gives you your list of all representatives for your district and on a state and national level.

Along with their positions on major issues and past voting records!

Good link. Glad to see young folks interested in politics. Half the 22 y.o.'s I know couldn't name there rep or both senators. When did they take civics out of school?

I was a history major for a while and up until a few years ago really couldn't have cared less, but now with the fact that I will soon graduate college and be out in the real world, I finally realized it's a necessity!

I don't think of myself as a political person really, but there are a few causes I do strongly believe in, one being our 2nd amendment rights. And especially with this new bill 2469 I'm trying to get as many people involved and active as possible and getting them in contact with their elected officials, which is also a feature of that site!

Honestly I had no clue who my state rep was, but after the e-mail I'm going to send him shortly he'll know who I am.

E-mailed both my congressman, and the representative for Hattiesburg, since I spend a good chunk of my year, and money there, I figured he deserved one too. The Rep for Hattie also went to school and was born there I believe. He's also only 7 years older than I am, and just finished school a few years ago...his record looks fairly anti-gun though, he only had one item he even acknowledged his position on, and that was that he supported requiring background checks between private citizens at gun shows! So he's not looking to promising since that's effing STUPID!

We'll see how it goes though!

My gov't teacher from high school got me interested in the Constitution and politics. One of our assignments was to either register to vote or present a paper on why you've decided not to. Like most youngsters, I didn't give a hoot about what was going on in our country until my senior year. I must say that U.S. Government class was successful. flag/eagle
