Permit Renewal Glitch Today
I renewed my carry permit today. It was due to expire in late March, but wanted to get it done in case any oddities cropped up, and why wait til the last minute anyway I always figure. Went to the Highway Patrol station and got finger printed again, then across the street to the DMV where we hand it all in. Gave the gal all the paperwork, and the cash. She ran it all through, everything checked out, took the cash, and told me to have a seat, it would be ready in a couple minutes. Sure enough, she called my name, gave me the renewed permit, and out the door I went. In and out in about 15 minutes. Went real smooth. Got out to the truck and looked at the permit. What the heck?????!!!!!!!!!!!
Date Issued 03-28-07
Date Expires 03-28-12
Them dates, except for the 12 were the same dates that were on my old card. Went back in and showed it to her, and asked if these dates were correct. She looked at it and said oh my gosh! She got on the phone right away and reported it to whom ever. They discussed it, and got it figured out. She reran the info, and it spit out a new and corrected permit. Another fellow who was in line behind me, had his already in the system so she had to redo his as well. She thanked me for bringing it to her attention, and then wondered how many ahead of me had been done like that. I saw 2 other folks, both ladies, ahead of me leave with their permits, so who knows! Just glad I looked at mine before I left there. So, next time any of yall have to renew, check the dates!

Is it typical that you have to be re-fingerprinted? Are you charged for the additional fingerprinting? Isn't the point of being fingerprinted that your fingerprints don't change and are unique to you?

Yeah, I usually file my fingerprints just before filing the serial numbers off......

Re: Permit Renewal Glitch Today
I've got a question about the fingerprinting, too. The other day when I was buying a gun from Academy, the salesperson spoke to the approval person about my purchases being delayed. Told her I had bought several guns from him during the past year and she had him hand me the phone. We spoke about it and she said she'd send me the paperwork for a UPN to use for gun purchases to avoid the delay. I got the forms today and they require a finger print card be submitted with the request. Where is the best place to get fingerprinted and how much does it cost? Heck, if it's anything at all, I may just go ahead and kill two birds with one stone and apply for my permit. Don't think I'll carry, but it would be nice to know I was legal if I needed to. Anyways, just wondering. Also, I think I've read that it's best to get a passport photo from Walgreens for the permit. What does that cost? Just trying to weigh all the costs involved before taking the plunge. Thanks.

Re: Permit Renewal Glitch Today
I got my permit to avoid the phone calls at purchase time (and I carry sometimes).
The State said that the FBI would not run prints over 5 years old so even though they legalized mail-in renewals every other 5 years, the State was saying that you HAD to submit new prints every time.
But a guy I know well sent his renewal in without prints and they mailed him his new permit recently.
So it appears that you don't have to send in prints with the mailed in renewals.
Where to get prints? I am not sure. We do them where I work (Federal agency) for employees, but I would ask my friendly police or sherriff if they would do it if I were you.
If you apply for a permit they print you in the MHP building where you apply for the permit.

# No. Fingerprints will be done every other five year renewal. We know your prints do not change, but your eligibility to be a permit holder can. Our laws require a background check thru the FBI. The FBI will not check a set of fingerprints that are over six (6) months old.

Local PD or Sherrif can do the UPIN prints. Sometimes they will do them for free. Your CCW Permit avoids the call altogether.

The CCW permit is good for a lot when you are involved in buy/sell/trade world. Its also good for purchases from out of state that you have shipped to a local ffl. Mine usually charges me next to nothing because all I have to do is fill out the paper work and walk out. No hassle to them, plus I am a good repeat customer.
