New England single shot 410. I remember buying it at Walmart with my dad, and being quite afraid to pull the trigger the first time at the range. Ha...

An old Remington .22, it is a 550-1 from the sixties I believe. I still have it, and it's pretty darn accurate for an old gun, and it's never jammed once on me. I can't speak so highly of my 10/22.

10/22 that my dad bought for me when I was 1. Last year I had it refinished and gave it to my 6 year old son.

My Dad's Ranger (Sears) .22 singleshot. He bought it as a kid in the '30's. Paid for by trapping rabbits for .10 a pelt. Will have it always.

First "new" gun was a single-slot .410 for Christmas when I was 12. Sold it years ago for "beer money". Foolish youth.

A Glenfield Model 60 22RF semi-auto (10rd tube-fed). I saved the money and my parents bought it from the OLD Surplus City (in those quanset hut buildings on Hwy. 80) for a whopping $40. I thought I was bada$$ with that gun. Parts got worn out so I sold it many years ago.

Rem 22 model 521-T. I was about 9 years old. Still got it & it still shoots pretty good for iron sights. After that a Savage 410. Still got it, too. It's my shop gun.

Belgium made Browning .22 that my Dad gave me. Treated it like it was my life (maybe better). I still have it and always will. I love that gun. The next one was a Winchester 12 ga. It kicks pretty good but is a good shooter.

Ruger .22 revolver. Step-Dad was really into cowboy leather work. Made me a gun belt and holster. Shot more coke cans with that thing than I can remember. Learned how to quick draw and fan with pretty good accuracy.

He sold it to the neighbors... man I miss that little gun. I know I am on to bigger and better, but geez... that was a good gun.

Just remember... "Bigger and better" is not always "better" especially when associated with fond memories. I firmly believe that all those things should be hoarded if possible.

Not too long ago I picked up a Heritage SA .22 wheelie with both the .22lr and .22mag cylinders at Sports Authority over in Starkville and have had a blast shooting it. A .22 is hard to beat for everyday fun. Since you're living there you ought to check it out if you haven't along with the Army-Navy store and Gary's Gun & Pawn (West Point & Columbus). Those will give you a pretty good selection of stuff to browse. thumbs up

My first, when I was around 6 or 7 (IIRC) was a Bolt Action Mossberg 12 ga. with a poly choke. First it felt like it weighed 100 pounds and then (with my father holding it up to my shoulder and me reaching out to the trigger) I fired the first shot. And that was the last shot. The next day we went to Pep Boys (Once again IIRC) and got me a Nylon 66. I dont know what the H E double L my father was thinking.

My Dad bought my brother and I Marlin Glenfield Model 60's in the late '60's when we were about 8&9 yrs old. I have read lot's of good things about them but we never got more than 4-5 shots before they would jam. Because of that I'll bet they never saw 100 rounds through them.
The first long gun I ever shot was probably his Stevens 20ga hammerless single shot that I still have.
I think the very first time I shot any gun was when I was about 5-6 yrs old. My Dad brought a 1911 home to repair for a guy and I remember him letting me shoot it.
