Kimber Solo

Post by HotRod31 on Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:26 pm

Was able to fondle a Solo9 today at Dads Super Pawn. It was not for sale, salesman didn't know when they would get another one in. It had a shorter triggger pull than my K9. I may be in the market for one if they don't start having recall problems.

Later, Mark

i posted up a thread the day they came out when i fondled one in van's. NICE little gun. I'm not a fan of 9mm but I would definitely buy one of those! I'll wait on the magazines to become readily available though. right now, much like the guns, you can't really buy mags for it...but Kimber may be selling them now, i dunno

Guy at Dads said around $650 to $750 but that was off the top of his head.

Picture of Van's price in this thread. If I recall it wasn't bad at all

And if I remember correctly it had a nice little trigger on it

I shot a Kimber Solo yesturday, I was originally impressed with the pistol till I shot it, it jammed jammed and jammed some more, could not get it to extract correctly. I field stripped it, cleaned it, lubed it, changed ammo. Recoil with hot Cor-Bon ammo was extremely fierce, snappy. I would wait till they have worked the buggs out before shelling out $700.00 for one, just my thoughts.

I am a big Kimber Fan. My everyday carry gun is a Kimber Crimson Carry Ultra, and I really wanted to love this little pistol.

It may not even be possible yet, but it appears you might have forgot the Golden Rule of all things Kimber...replace the recoil spring and FP spring with a Wolff XP set before the first firing

you could be right, it was brand new out of the box, beautiful tiny pistol, it totally reminded me of a tiny new Colt 1903, ambi safety and mag release, if it ran right, and extracted correctly I was gonna buy it, seemd to still have some bugs.

I hope all goes well!! I really need another pocket gun. I like the looks of the solo CDP best but there's no telling when it'll be released, much less actually produced in large enough quantities to make it to shelves

They have some issues with the solo's

I'd have to locate my 2Anews email on another pc...but it was less than a stellar recommendation....

Maybe someone else got the email and will post it

Could it just be a "break in" issue? Some pistols require 300-1000 rounds before they are considered "ready"...

kimbers especially. factory recommends 600 rounds before they like to take the gun back for warranty work(outside of major failures of course). Kimber's CS is very very good if you approach them with a good attitude. folks that have problems out of them tend to be hot heads anyway.

The latest NRA magazine has one on the cover and a test report. They say that you must only use "premium" ammo, and you must break it in.

Still they had some slightly negative things to report. Now if NRA has "slightly negative" things to say about a major sponsor's product, I figure it must be a real dog.

I also notice they left off any rail for folks who want to hang things on them.

And I noticed that the front of the grip is smooth---not stippled or grooved for fingers.

You haven't seen or held one in person huh?....it's a pocket pistol, not a house clearing/duty gun. It's a point, shoot and "get the eff off of me!" gun...no need for a rail.

Also the Solo CDP will have the checkering on the front strap I believe, it will also have night sights and crimson trace grips...and a much heftier price tag of ~$1300 IIRC. If they get the kinks worked out that's the model I'll eventually shoot for

From Local Ms 2A news:

Kimber Solo (or Solo Carry) problems

We have seen reports of numerous incidents of problems with the new Kimber Solo pocket 9mm pistol. Although Kimber states that the pistol was "designed to function optimally using premium hollow-point self-defense factory ammunition with bullet weights of 124 or 147 grains," and specifically recommends Federal Hydra-Shok JHPs (in other words, not cheap ball practice ammo), we hear of these pistols having numerous failure-to-fire and failure-to-eject occurrences with the recommended ammo. However, while the NRA staff review experienced no difficulties, it did mention problems with "earlier samples." I suppose that means they kept sending them back until they got one that worked. Of course, they also gave their "Golden Bullseye" award for outstanding firearm to a recalled gun last year. They're still explaining/defending that one. Caveat emptor.
