Post by b4tomorrow on Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:12 pm

45/70 Just like a woman I know nothing about this gun and would like info on the value. It is manufactured by Harrington & Richardson it is a Handi rifle SB2 (whatever that means). It is sporting a Konus adjustable scope and is in great condition anything you can tell me about the value will help, as I want to sell it but don't want to over or under charge for it Thanks

There value is down because of the .35 Whelen.

Welcome to MSGO. Without seeing the rifle I can only give a range of value. Actual value depends on condition and specific model scope and any other accessories. $175-$225 is probably close. Anew one is $250 and Konus scopes start at $60.

I think I gave little less than 200 for the one I got (WW) for my son in law for brush hunting. Next year they allowed the .35 Whelen. Kind of beat down the price on used 45-70's. Pics?
Welcome.

Welcome to MSGO
SB1 is a shotgun receiver and SB2 is a centerfire rifle receiver.SB1 frames are ductile(cast) iron, SB2 are investment cast alloy steel.

The shotguns (SB1) don't usually bring as much as the rifles (SB2). $75-$125 used for the shotguns, new they are $130-$190

And if you find a rifle caliber barrel on an SB1 reciever, inform the owner its dangerous and WALK away.

Seen reports of a guy using a 223 on an SB1 frame and after the 3rd shot he was surprised to find the gun was in the cocked position and there was no firing pin, transfer bar. They had been blown out of the reciever.

Luckily the man knew the dangers and was conducting an "experiment" and the rifle was bolted down and he was behind a tree with a string tied to the trigger.

The only centerfire rifle barrels H&R will fit to an SB1 receiver made after 1987 at the factory are .38/357 and 45lc. If it's a SB1 and it's got anything other than those it was not fitted by H&R.
