Looking for Gunsmith Training in Hattiesburg
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum, and I am looking for a place where I can get some gunsmith training. I am not looking to do it for a job but just as a hobby, I have a passion for weapons but I would hate to loose that if I turn it into work. So if you know of any places just post a message or you can shoot me a e-mail.
Thanks

I'm not in your neck of the woods, so don't know anyone there. But someone here will post a possible I'm sure.
Until then I'll give a few suggestions. Brownells [ www.brownells.com ] has alot of online DIY videos to watch and so does Midway [ www.midwayusa.com ]. You can check those out for free. The American Gunsmithing Institute [ www.americangunsmith.com 1 800 797-0867] has dvd's for sale, these are on specific weapons and they have different levels if you want to get deeper into it. There is also a monthly magazine put out by The American Gunsmithing Association [ www.american-gunsmith.com 1 800 829-5119].
For someone wanting to learn don't forget about the all the gunboards/forums. They all have a gunsmithing section with some good people that know their weapons. You don't have to register on all the boards to read and learn about certain weapons, best part is it's free.
Hope that will help some and welcome to MSGO.

A lot of good information there. You can also look at Midway Usa and Brownells catalogs or web sites in the books and video DVD section and there are many books and shop manuels on specific firearms. I prefer the books and manuels with pictures so that I can easily read sections on problems that I am having. Also you can do computer searches on books and videos. It is like school, you learn a lot from the classroom but when you actually get your hands dirty with solving a problem and fixing it, you will then start to really learning. Repairing your own guns is a good place to start. Also you can go to a pawn shop and buy a beater up gun and refinish it and repair it

Gunsmithing school
Hi, i'm new to the forum but I will tell you what I did. I recently did the online course through Penn Foster Online. They send you tools and what not for the supplimental stuff and they send you a TON of books for the 18 different sections their are as well as diagrams and the latest Brownells catelog.
There is another school online called SDI. Not sure how they work but I do know that Penn Foster and SDI take the Montgomery GI. Bill so they can't be TO TO bad. Then again I could be wrong.

Alderoth,
I hope you had better luck using the GI bill than I did, try to use it back in the 90's for my Mastergunsmith course I took. I ended up paying for out of my pocket as it was BS. I served for over 26 year's in the military and three war's and they still break off in the u now what. But I got it back then and doing real well with it now as I learned alot from the military and several of my benchrest shooting friend's, Rambo
