What do you need for steel matches?
I have shot several USPSA matches on the first Sunday on the month at Byram. I see there is an Outlaw Steel match this Saturday.
Can you use the same equipment for this as for USPSA? Do you need the mag holders, etc? I will probably shoot a production G19. Is this ok?
Have such a good time at the USPSA matches I want to expand.
Appreciate any advice on what is needed.
Thanks.

Re: What do you need for steel matches?
Short answer is "yes". If you have the gear for USPSA, you are good to go for Outlaw Steel.
You basically just need a gun (semi, revo, or rimfire, open or limited), holster, ammo, and eye and ear protection. You shouldn't actually need the mag holders, since reloading is almost always done "off the clock", or in between timed strings. Unlike sanctioned Steel Challenge matches though, there may be a rare stage that requires a reload so it won't hurt to have them.
In rimfire class, you don't even have to have the holster, as .22's start from the low ready position.

Thanks for the reply.
Last question. How many rounds do you need for a match?

Assuming you don't miss. You'll shoot 4-5 stages with 5 targets each. And you'll shoot each stage 5 times. So figure about 125 rounds at the absolute minimum.

Scratch that. Figure 200 minimum. That way you will definitely have enough. And it's not like the ammo is gonna go bad if you don't use it that day.
Justin is just a showoff and never misses.

Your good to go on equipment. Just don't forget to load your mags all the way up. You don't have to load just ten.

Seeing as this Saturday is going to be a hot one and potentially very humid, plenty of water, sunscreen, and a towel to wipe your forehead would make a good addition to the gun, ammo, mags, and holster.

Negatory. Quite the opposite actually. Lol I did clarify "Assuming you don't miss"
