Westboro Baptist "church" is coming to Brandon, MS

God bless Staff Sergeant Rogers and his family.

Normally, I wouldn't bother with this kind of thing as it's hear-say 90% of the time, but it seems legit: http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/20110413_Dead-Soldier-Brandon-MS-Jason-A-Rogers.pdf

I'm not happy about it, I'm willing to bet none of you are either.

What can we do? thinking

I received an email from a relative who is in law enforcement around that area. He said that Flowood PD and Rankin County SO are well aware of it, and met with military officials today to prepare. I sincerely hope that Mississippi stands up and shows these s**t human beings that this is not a state that will put up with their bull

Don't like it either. I think it's time for another group to get together with them for a "come to Jesus" meeting. I hope they realize there's a special place in hell set aside for folks like them. If they were protesting at my son's funeral, I'm afraid things might get ugly.

I'm in DC today and I have to go out of town for work this weekend, but I promise you that my Patriot Guard brothers will be there. We'll be on the tarmac at Flowood when they fly him in all the way to the cemetary Saturday. We are in contact with local LEO and they are helping us coordinate. We call these folks "Uglies" and rest assured the family isn't gonna see or hear them if we can help it.

Will see you all out there on Saturday afternoon I suspect. Just look for the short guy with the red beard.

I wonder if our local LEO's will turn a blind eye if a few of these people happened to stumble/fall/get hospitalized ?

These people need a lesson in southern manners. I didn't know the soldier, but I appreciate his service and his sacrifice, might just have to go to his funeral. I really don't think that his family should have to put up with this trash from wherever the hell they are from. I was not raised that way. Will comment later when I know more facts.

More injustice has been perpetrated in the name of God then for any other reason. You got to wonder what God thinks of his creation sometimes. I sincerely hopes he issues a recall notice for the A**hat leader and his equally screwed up followers.

For those of you wanting to show your support, The Central Mississippi Jeep Association, Offroad Alliance, and the Mississippi Offroad Club will be meeting up and riding with the Patriot Guard Riders to the funeral. Anyone who wishes to come with us is welcome. It doesn't matter is you drive a Jeep or a Pinto, we would love to have you. We will probably be parking on the median in front of Pinelake, but the details are being worked on at this time.

OFFICIAL CALL TO ORGANIZE!!!

A travesty is about to happen!!!! As you know MS has lost one of its Marines in Afghanistan named Staff Sgt Jason Rogers. His funeral is this Saturday at 3pm at Pinelake. The a**hole Westboro "Baptist Church" has been granted a permit to protest at this hero's funeral. They like to hold signs that "God hates your dead Marine, Were glad he's dead"...etc....Lets not let them overshadow the right that this awesome Marine has earned in an honorable funeral.

They can not protest on Pinelakes property so that leaves the road.....guess what...that is our stretch of Adopt a Highway.

*****Stand by....we will be riding with the Mississippi Chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders. They do this all over the US and know the most effective way to show our support.***

If you are interested, please post up so we can get a head count.

I can be there, big flag in hand to block them off. With close relatives who have been there like many of you have, it'll be hard to keep from giving a USN a** whoppin' on them but I know this will be send off from a greatful Nation to one of her finest. Where do these people congregate, at the Funeral Home, Church or Graveside? Any info will be appreciated, I'll just wave my Flag to help block them out and bite my tongue to keep the peace that this family deserves.

Way back in 1969 in the midst of all the anti-war protests, we didn't have to deal with this crap when we buried my stepbrother, KIA in Viet Nam. Absolutely unbelievable. I think that little group of severely misguided souls is going be nearly invisible in the huge crowd of honorable mourners.

Lt. Dan,
Although I understand you will be there to support a brother Marine and I know his family will appreciate it, please take some comfort in knowing that there are security preparations in place for dealing with these idiots. Their threats to disrupt the funeral service and the burial are being taken very seriously.

There are no permits required in the county. However, private property owners can (and will) prohibit them from using their property to protest.

That is absolutely correct. Intel indicates they will be at the church, but preparations are in place for that.

The JT show is all on this today he's been interviewing a guy representing "Patriot Gaurd Riders of MS". Lot of good info, 97.3 or 102.1 I THINK in someplaces. The Rep said these ppl are "sue happy" more than anything.. Like sue you if you hurt them or the police dept for not protecting them. This guy has been disbarred from practicing law in MS and maybe Kansas. I'll post more if I here it.

Few things make me more proud to be an American than this scene. This sacrifice, this love for liberty that is held in the face of ignorance, this brings a tear to my eye. A war hero gives their life, the ultimate sacrifice for them and their family. The good people of this country come to offer their thanks and support for that ultimate gift. While there, the victims of these heinous attacks honor the fallen by tolerating these cowards rights to exercise the liberty that the fallen protected for them.

This sacrifice and support by the Patriot Guards and the volunteer citizens is America, this is true Patriotism, this is why I love what our nation represents.

God bless our troops and their families, they deserve our eternal gratitude, they sure do have mine!

You know, we need to change the nomenclature of these sleaze
balls, instead of referring to them as a church, call them what they
are, a bunch of inbred insane thugs hiding behind the pretense of
being a Christian church to feed their "glorious leader"'s ego and
lack of self esteem. I don't have much hope of this happening in
most media, including most of the Jackson locals, since the media
is most likely in secret sympathy with these low life, scum sucking,
bottom feeding thugs.

Went great thanks to Gonzo and the other LEO's and VTFOVR with the jeep and MC escort. Only saw Mhead and lovely wife there, only because he spotted my MSGO T-shirt and came over. Wife and I went the Church (not in the Church, just outside where the supporters were. Helped a fellow Navy Vet hold up his huge flag as well as my 4x6 flag) and the graveyard. We stayed about 100 yards away as I wanted the family to know they had our support but not close enough to impose on the very tragic burial of their heroic Son. As they played Taps, it was very emotional for me even though I had heard it 1000's of times.

I want to know who is bankrolling this bunch of idiots.

It would be nice to see a Congressional inquiry on them.

No way a little church with only 71 member can afford this.

Yeah, they won a $200,000 suit against the local town of Topeka in the 1990s, but that will not carry this kind of activity:

Phelps and his family picket approximately six locations every day, including many in Topeka and some events farther afield. On Sundays, up to 15 churches may receive pickets. By their own count, the church has conducted over 30,000 pickets, in all 50 states, in over 500 cities and towns.

The group carries out daily picketing in Topeka (purportedly six per day with fifteen on Sunday) and travels nationally to picket the funerals of gay victims of murder, gay-bashing or people who have died from complications relating to AIDS; other events related or peripherally related to gay people; Kansas City Chiefs football games; and live pop concerts. As of March 2009 the church claims to have participated in over 41,000 protests in over 650 cities since 1991. One of Westboro's followers estimated that the church spends $250,000 a year on picketing.

Obviously, one person with a sign at a local football game is cheap. But taking a bunch of folks to far away states takes real money.

I found this answer:

The Phelps are an extremely rich family. There are 14 children in all ... all but 4 are lawyers. The father is a lawyer. Their grandchildren are all lawyers. Anyone who joins there church is offered a full paid trip to college. The church provides it's money from within.

But an interesting tidbit is that before the church was formed Fred Phelps had his kids go out and sell candy to people then he would stiff the candy companies for their money. That is how he originally got the money to start his church. Well that and by stiffing the pastor who started his career.

I grew up down the street from the Phelps family.

Heck, if I'd known that, I'd got myself thrown in jail with a couple buddies. Woulda been an all night party. They'd loath the day they ever set foot on the soil of MS.
