Newbie looking for Matches

Post by bsdubois00 on Fri Apr 15, 2011 2:05 pm

Hey there everyone,

I am moving from Oklahoma to the Jackson area and am looking for matches to shoot. I see the Magnolia club has monthly USPSA matches - what else goes on during the month. I mainly shoot USPSA but just built a new competition AR and am looking at shooting 3-gun as well as Carbine matches.

Thanks

Brandon

Hey Brandon
Welcome to Jackson. I too am a newbie to Jackson, moved here from Illinois last July.

Magnolia has several matches each month, here is link to the calendar. Magnolia R&P Club matches 2011

There are also a bunch of USPSA matches within driving distance of the Jackson area, in the following, the second post from DBChaffin list several other USPSA matches USPSA Matches with driving distance of Jackson

I believe the only 3 Gun matches are a bit of a drive from Jackson. Here are a couple links to some regular 3 Gun matches country wide:

http://www.3gunrules.com/clubdatabase.php

Hope that helps.

I'll be in the Jackson area - I have already been to Magnolia's website and gotten the scoop. I will be doing that.

Sorta sad to hear that 3 gun / Carbine matches are not big in MS. I get spoiled too much in Oklahoma.

We run Carbine matches in Oklahoma. Basically they are USPSA stages but run with Rifles. We have Centerfire division and Rimfire. Both have Iron classifications and Optics classifications.

It gives people the opportunity to use their AR's and what not in practical settings without having to go all the way to 3-gun.

They are a BLAST also

The reason I asked was...... Here at Magnolia "Carbine matches" means M1 Carbines ONLY in certain Hi-Power matches.

Very intriguing. Do you happen to have links to any video of the matches?

They are a BLAST - what makes it nice too with all the 22 AR's and conversion kits - it can be a VERY cheap match to shoot. A lot of times shooters shoot 2 guns even - since it is so easy to switch the upper on an AR

That does look like a blast! We need to try that at Magnolia.

That's way cool. Something to look into when you get settled in here. Don't know how I'd find time for something else, but I'd have to try.

With all the tornadoes we've been getting you'll feel right at home.

Heck you can even run them the day after normal matches and keep the stages up. If your regular matches are on Saturday - keep the stages up and shoot Carbine matches on Sunday. Using a Nordic upper and .22lr - it makes for a CHEAP fun weekend!!!
