Which Gun Rights Organization(s) should we support?

Post by Scharfschütze on Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:33 am

I received a mailing from Senator Rand Paul, soliciting a donation / membership for "The National Asociation for Gun Rights Inc." this week. I have never heard of them before, although I am aware of Sen. Rand Paul's efforts to rescind the Obama regime's ban on the reimportation of M1 Garands and other military surplus firearms.
I am an NRA Life Member since 1992. I have occasionally contributed to the Second Amendment Foundation, I thought Gottlieb did a good job, but I believe he is now deceased. As far as I am aware there are:

(1)National Rifle Association. I contribute to the NRA and NRA-ILA several times / year as the budget permits.
(2)Second Amendment Foundation
(3)Gun Owners of America
(4)the late Neal Knox's organization now run by his son (I forget the name)
(5)Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership - I believe the founder of this organization recently died-
and now
(6) "The National Association for Gun Rights, Inc"
plus how many others???
not to mention on a local basis the MSFOA, my club (Southwest Gun Club). How many of y'all contribute to these or more than one of these? Does having multiple entities dilute the effectiveness of our "Gun Lobby" ? I believe so, what do y'all think?

MSFOA and NRA

The NRA is the only true "force" in DC....They ignore the others

I agree that the NRA is the 500 lb gorilla in the room, BUT - they were NOT the initial force in the Heller case in D.C., and they did NOT (initially)support the Chicago case, which is ongoing - in both cases they came in after the fact and crowed "success". IIRC, GOA was the leader in Chicago, will have to look at that again. If the NRA is spending too much on mail-outs and magazines, while these smaller organizations are actually filing and winning lawsuits against unconstitutional laws, should we support the "others", or is that just "divide and conquer" or as I wrote, "dilution" of our lobbying strength?

I have a pretty extensive library, both of w*rk related (linguistics and literature/history) and hobby-related(firearms) reference books in several languages; I keep a couple of decades of the NRA American Rifleman journal in magazine containers and shelved for reference as well. Nothing like being able to put my hand on a hard-copy when I need a quick reference. And I do this on a regular basis. But for those who read 'em and toss them in the garbage, yes, switch to the e-magazine! Save the NRA some $ and maybe they will spend it on lobbying, not mail-outs.

Ideally, they should all get together and use the strengths of each one.
The power and might of the NRA, the grassroots determination and unwaveringness of GOA, etc.

The problem with any lobbying group is that they have to raise money and then play the Washington game in order to have any measure of success. It's like the old saying "Anyone fit to be President of the US wouldn't survive the process to get there."
