New Residents

Post by mattwestm on Sat Apr 30, 2011 6:52 pm

I was a bit concerned about the 12 month residency requirement for obtaining a MS permit. I called the HP office in Batesville and they informed me that after I transfer my drivers license from NC to MS, I can also transfer my permit. I hope the fact that I only have a FL permit doesn't matter. I went with the FL permit because the NC permit is not valid if you are no longer an NC resident. I wouldn't be able to carry while waiting for the MS permit once I get my MS drivers license. Can any new residents to MS confirm the information that the HP office gave me?

If for some reason they won't give me a MS permit until after a year, I'll still be okay to carry with my non-res FL permit Smile

I can't wait to move to Oxford!

Can't answer any of your questions, but you're going to love it up here! Bummer you haven't already moved here, today and tonight is the double decker music and art festival which has been a blast so far. Only downside is there's not a local shooting range.

I've heard about double decker and it sounds awesome. Someone told me there is a good place to shoot near Grenada Lake. When I finally move, I'll have to check it out.

I am just guessing here, but if your Florida permit is still valid (e.g., you may have to inform Florida of your new residence) it should be honored in Mississippi:

# With what other states does Mississippi have reciprocity? (Whose permits do we honor, who honors ours?)
# Mississippi has Reciprocal Agreements with : Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan,Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, & Wyoming.

PS: I had a daughter and grandson and brother-in-law at Double Decker today. If you saw the football goal post game there today, I built it.

Welcome to Oxpatch. Check out Mississippi Auto Arms when you arrive. Great store with an equally great owner, Nathan.

I tried to stop by Auto Arms a time or two but never could find it.

It's "on the square" in the vicinity of the discount book store---right?

The whole having to wait 12 months before being able to apply for CCW is a royal pain. Moved from Illinois and they don't issue CCWs so I can't even skip the waiting period by having a valid CCW in another state. Had a CCW when I lived in Pennsylvanian, but that was ages ago and now expired.
