Huh? Are you referring to a separate permit or something?
If so then no you can't get a OC permit. You can get your firearms license/permit which allows you to carry concealed. Open carry has been ruled as "partially concealed" back in the 90s, IIRC, so it is technically legal if you have your firearms permit.
Personally, I carry concealed....not because of the risk of having my gun taken, or being the first one shot or any of that crap, but just because I don't want to have to explain to every cop that ever approaches me that OC is in fact "partially concealed" and then have to prove it by carrying the actual case ruling, blah blah blah.......

Re: open carry in ms
Nope, just have to have concealed weapons permit to carry open...dumb huh? LOL You don't really wanna carry open in most places though...unless you wanna get stopped by EVERY cop that sees you! Not to mention every freaked out person with a cell phone will report a man with a gun.
I personally like the element of surprise, I have open carried before, but mostly where I used to hunt. I could walk into the little country stores with a .357 Blackhawk on my hip, and the only comment was " Whacha totin'?" Try that in Jackson or almost any city these days.

The only thing MS has is a "FIREARMS" permit and Armed Guard permit. Most treat it as a CCW but technically OC is legally but everyone says you will get harassed because it doesn't say anything about it in the handgun permit packet they give you. However you can carry "open or concealed any deadly weapon" in the confines of your vehicle or place of work even without a permit because it is an extension of your home. TN allows open carry but you don't see it too often in the city.

Re: open carry in ms
The reason the MS Permit just says 'Firearms' is because they couldn't put 'According to Subsection 45-101-9 the Person Identified With This Permit is Legally Condoned to Carry a StunGun, Concealed Pistol/Revolver on Person in Public With few Exceptions not Concerned With his Home, Place of Business and/or Vehicle and can Shop for a Handgun at a Regulated Place of Business Without waiting for a phonecall to Verify Said Person is Legally capable of Purchasing a Handgun at this Time'...lol...for further information please read the laws again as shown/stated in the MS Public Safety Website under the Firearms Permit Section and the link to 'Individual Firearms Permit Application'. There as stated on other threads you will find the correct wording pertaining to said permit as issued by the MS Dept of Public Safety...And therefore said Permit is primarily in consideration of concealed carry. Open carry is covered in other sub-sections as coming and going to firearms events, fishing, hunting etc. This permit as stated in Line 18 of 45-101-9 has nothing to do with open carry. As in any other post/threads to this forum take this as a guide to further your research into this situation.

Re: open carry in ms
You'd better check your employee handbook at work..
I'm betting many have clauses in them that do not allow you to carry on their property or use their transportation while carrying a firearm.
Don't matter to your H.R. person whether you got a valid MS firearms permit or not.
Get caught.... Bye Bye Job

I was referring to one's own place of business such as someone who owns a CarWash and such and/or have other permissions depending on where they work. Not about sneaking one in to work at the warehouse not under ones' management or ownership... You are however perfectly correct- msredneck- on many places not wanting employees carrying on the job...insurance and such and total loss of business may be involved if an incident does occur. And I was referring to the Castle Doctrine in the Home, Auto, Place of Business(work) part of the statement.

This statement was made:
"However you can carry "open or concealed any deadly weapon" in the confines of your vehicle or place of work even without a permit because it is an extension of your home."
I mainly posted that for the benefit of others who might not be aware.
Folks that are self-employed can set their own rules....
Not everyone on here has that benefit however...
You have the "right to be fired" at work also...
Ya'll be smart out there....
we've beat the OC in MS to death...
carry it...conceal it...keep mouth shut....pretty simple

Personally, I'd like to see the state Supremes rule that your place of employment can't infringe your right to keep and bear.
If history is any guide, you're about as likely to need to defend yourself at work as you are anywhere else.
......'Specially if'n you work at the post office!
(just tryin' to see if Captain03 will come a runnin'.....)

State employees cannot carry at work. IRS employees cannot carry...
I own my own business and am happy for any of my employees to have a CCW.

Regardless of company policy, it is legal for you to have a firearm in your car at work unless they provide a SECURE parking area for you.

The cop thing, it may happen. The "freaked out person" is highly unlikely. I've open carried on many occasions and only had one encounter with an officer. You are more likely to have a random encounter with a LEO than to be the MWAG call. That being said, to each his own.SilentHitz wrote:You don't really wanna carry open in most places though...unless you wanna get stopped by EVERY cop that sees you! I don't know, I feel like if I went walking around good ole Oxford with my big Ruger 357 or one of my Dans hanging off my belt that there'd be a lot of MWAG calls going on. Could get interesting...
