15-22 problems
Got my son a S&W m&p 15-22 for his birthday. Took it out shooting for the first time and the magazine will not follow up. It binds in 2 places on the path to the top. I tried some oil and working the hell out of it, but no luck. Did a quick search on the web and didn't see anyone having this particular problem. We were able to load 7 rounds at a time and shoot em out no probs. Now I get to have the fun experience of sending it in for warranty.

From what I've read, you shouldn't ever have to oil a magazine follower, due to the fact that oil and solvents can degrade primers loaded in the magazine later. I hate to hear that your M&P isn't working out just right, let us know how the warranty process goes.

I'll keep that in mind in the future. Just had to gripe, and was kinda hoping there was a solution I had missed somewhere.

whenever I buy a semi of any type...I always buy extra mags...possibility exists that its your mag...try another...try different ammo..
Oil and dirt = crud....jamamatic...especially on a 22
9 out of 10 times...its a mag problem

Re: 15-22 problems
I found these guns are really particular about how the mags are loaded. A lot of folks remove the mag assist all together, because it'll cause you more trouble than help. My recommendation for loading the mags is to load the ammo one at a time under spring pressure just like you would a centerfire automatic. Additionally, watch the cartridges and make certain that the front ends alternate from side to side in perfect order. Let one get out of line and everything after it will be, as well. Most of the misfeed problems with these guns occur after one is out of line. I even take the end of a key to help them into place, if necessary. I found that when properly loaded, my gun never misfed or jammed at all, however if I wasn't careful loading, it could be a jammomatic. Hope this helps.

Try the S&W FORUM they have a section just for the 15-22 and some good folks there that may help with your problem.

Re: 15-22 problems
Got it back today.
The good - S&W put 2 new magazines in the box - was nice of them.
The bad - I was out of town when Fed-ex delivered the gun. When no one came out, the driver went to my neighbors house and knocked on his door and asked him if he would please sign and take the package. So he signs, then puts the box over in my yard. The gun ends up sitting im my yard for 2 days getting a good soaking rain of course.

what a neighbor...
I'd move....better yet...make your neighbor wanna move
I'd be P.O.'ed about that...
I can just see it now...some neighborhood kid gets the thing and starts shooting houses dogs cats and stuff...then YOU get blamed for it
Like I said...what a freaking great neighbor

I had one of these for a couple of months before trading it along. I found it shot both cheap and expensive ammo equally well. I suspect it is a quirky magazine.

No, they didn't give me any paperwork at all, but I'm about 99% sure it was the magazine. Seemed like a plastic? casting problem - it was bowed in 2 spots. I received 2 new magazines, and have put about 200 rounds of the cheap walmart stuff down the barrel without any issues since. Very fun and accurate gun.

Having put 1000+rnds down my 15-22 I'd agree it is the mag in all probability. I know others who have bought in past 2 yrs & found it to be extremely reliable! When you get it fixed and do a mag dump in 8 seconds you will be happy with it!

Re: 15-22 problems
The neighbor's Wife probably told him "I don't want that GUN in my house". My Mother in Law told me that in Baltimore once, and I told my Wife to pack up, we were going home. I had 3 US Army M14 NM rifles in the van. I was not going to leave them on the street.
