Sign question....

Post by CAJNFRND on Sat 7 May 2011 - 22:18

I just saw the following sign at a local restaurant. Not sure if it's been there all along or just put up. It is 10 feet up on the building and about 30 feet from the door / entrance. There is nothing about guns, weapons or firearms near the door. What is your take on this????

So, is it illegal to conceal carry inside this restaurant?

The way I read it, it's only illegal if you park there but not if you park in the regular parking space.

Works for me big thumb up Seems to me like "no loitering" sets the standards of the sign Smile or that's the case I'd make. And the only reason they should have any clue that you have a gun would be in the event of an attempted robbery, and assuming you were forced to put said BG down what're they gonna say? The only words I'd expect to hear out of their mouth are "thank you."

Besides it's not up to the specifications of the law IMO...I'm not 10 feet tall so 10 feet up is not visible to a reasonable person

It's Waffle House, there's no way you'd want to eat in there unless you were packing! lol

(13)...concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in any place in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the "carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited."

IANAL, but clearly quotes what must be on the sign.

In any case, I hate waffle house food. Also, with that sign, it's clear that they do not deserve or want my money.

Well, the sign does say "alcoholic beverages and firearms are prohibited"

Does that mean as long as I don't have both I'm ok?

I eat at the Waffle House in Brookhaven all the time while carrying. If they have a sign up it's not very clear at all.

We've been eating at this one for years and never completely read this sign until this weekend. It is in the parking lot. Now I wonder if All Waffle houses have this sign?

Letter to Waffle House:
"My family and I have been frequenting the Waffle House in Wiggins MS for years now on a weekly basis. Friday I just noticed a sign that I find disturbing. This sign has probably been present for some time, I just never fully read it until now. Outside on the side of the building was a sign that read "CUSTOMER PARKING ONLY---- NO LOITERING Alcoholic beverages and Firearms are prohibited.........." There is not sign at the doorway prohibiting guns when you walk in. I am a law abiding citizen. I have gone through the process to obtain and maintain a firearms permit from the state of Mississippi. I am extremely dissappointed that Waffle House does not support the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and an American citizens right to practice my Constitutional right. Waffle House is telling law abiding citizens that you do not want our business. Do you think that criminals are going to read and obey your sign? In essence, this sign invites the criminal element and tells legally permitted firearm carriers that we are not welcome. My family and I, along with a rapidly growing segment of the US population have decided to no longer support businesses that do not support the Second Amendment and our rights to self defense. I hope tht Waffle House will reconsider it's stance on the Second Amendment and once again welcome firearm permit holders."

Let's see if I get a response..........

You need to find the owner of the local franchise. It's his pocketbook that will be effected most. Then if it is a corporate policy, send it there, or go ahead and do both.

I say the sign applies to the parking lot... Seems that's the way it's worded. There is a sign in front of a N. Jackson shopping center I recently noticed that doesn't make much sense either, I'll get a picture and post it here.

Agreed, but it's such a vague sign, and not even legal so he should write them just the same

In 2007 a guy I knew was stabbed to death at one in Vicksburg. That night he made several mistakes which, when strung together, cost him his life. Willie Sanders was found not guilty by justifiable self-defense.

A Florence man is dead and a Vicksburg man faces a murder charge after a stabbing at a restaurant over the weekend.

William Mayer, 36, of 101 Hunter Trail, died Saturday at River Region Medical Center. He was stabbed multiple times at the Waffle House at 4045 E. Clay St., according to reports.

Willie Fitzgerald Sanders, 42, of 1517 South St., was charged in the stabbing, which occurred in the doorway of the restaurant. He has been released from the Warren County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The synopsis is Will was partying at some club over there, and he and his girlfriend went to WH to eat and sober up some for the ride back to Jackson. Sanders started arguing with a female employee and Will decided to get in the middle of it and one thing led to another. He was stabbed 11 times, bled out quickly.
