Quick Question on CCW

Post by wtfovr on Fri May 13, 2011 2:35 pm

Finally got the spare cash to get my CCW. When looking at the paperwork, it says I must submit a picture. Can I have this done at the MHP building when I get printed, or do I need to go to Walgreens or something and do a passport photo? Thanks in advance!

You will have to make them in advance, but you can save money by doing them yourself.

I did the walgreens thing when I first did my permit. I did my own for my renewal and it went fine. Dont forget they only take new applications on Wednesday. If you go any other day they will turn you away.

A black and white passport photo is what I used...walgreens, CVS etc

As already said, you have to bring a photo with your application.

I did my own on photo paper on my home printer. I don't know why it is required though. After I gave them my application, photo, and money they took my prints and sent me back up front for an official picture. They then teased me by handing me my CCW, asked if the picture looked OK, and promptly took it back for the waiting period.

One other odd thing. This year I renewed my driver's license online. Instead of my old license picture, my CCW picture is on my DL too.

The picture you provide gets stapled to your application. I asked the lady when I handed mine over why, she said it goes with the fingerprint stuff to the FBI as part of the background check.

I agree with the Walgreens passport photo option, unless you have a pretty fair printer, preferably a photo printer, to use at home. I printed mine originally as a black and white (perfectly fine by MS rules), and when I showed it to the lady at the HP office, she said that she thought they might possibly reject it due to the quality (it was somewhat bad). So I went across town and found a Walgreens, and it came out much nicer than mine.

If you do your own no hat or rejection. Also if I remember correctly they don't make change but this may have changed.

I read somewhere a while back that they didn't give change, but I forgot and went with $140 and they gave me change.

I got mine at walgreens on the way to the MHP office. And the lady made change but didn't like doing it. Smile

The woman doesn't like making change or doing anything else. Last time there had to ding the bell for service, (once only), woman came out of the office acoss the hall, the hideout I suppose, with a real to goodness attitude. She was very short and rude for a while until I kept talking to her nicely regardless. Finally she loosened up and almost acted like a public servant should. She doesn't want the job or have to do it, she just wants the check.

If you already have a pic just cut it to size and take it with you, no problems

That attitude can be found in any field of work. Smile
