Chinese .223 Rem danger

Post by Doug Bowser on Sun May 15, 2011 1:54 pm

I was at the Southwest Gun Club Range and found an M193 .223 Remington loaded round. This ammunition was loaded in China and sold under the name of Norinco. The CJ denotes China Jeng. The Chinese are not allowed to import any firearms and ammunition into the USA. They were caught trying to import a shipload of full auto AK47 rifles in the mid 90's.

I test fired several rounds of the CJ headstamped .223 ammo and the velocity for a 55 gr bullet was 3700 fps. Anyone that has any of this ammunition should not fire it. It is obviously loaded way too hot.

Wow. I've still got a butt-ton of that that was purchased back in the mid-90s before it was banned. And I think it's also 93 headstamped like that. Not sure about the CJ.

I'll have to put some over a chrony and see what it registers. I've shot a ton of it over the years with no problems. No blown-up cases, no blown out primers or anything.

I'll be sure to check it out closely.

Thanks.
