First time post. Firearms on ross barnett reservoir.

Post by pberry on Mon May 16, 2011 6:28 pm

I signed up for this forum last year but didn't post at that time. I kinda forgot about you guys until a few days ago. I was at a reservoir boat launch where a sign stated no firearms on the water, or something to that effect. I have a MS carry permit and I usually have one on me all the time. I fish a lot. Several State owned lakes have such a sign and I honor that. They own the lake so I assume they can do that. Can, and do they restrict carry on the reservoir. I went to three launches and only one had that sign. Does anyone know what the law is on the reservoir.
Thanks Phil Warren Co.

not sure bout the law but I think its like a local shopping center in north jackson that has no firearms signs at CERTAIN entrances I just dont use those entrances, I wouldn't use that boat ramp. but I would want to find out the actuall law. call the MDWFP talk to someone up there.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District that manages the Rez is a State agency. They say they do it without any city, state or taxpayer money.
Here's their website. http://www.therez.ms/about.html

I just checked the reservoir sight and read the regs on hunting and firearms. It did not say no firearms allowed. It did say you can't fire one, but it didn't say you can't carry it. I'm an old fart and I feel better when I can protect myself. I'll call MDWFP tomorrow and see what they have to say. Lake Calling Panther has posted, no firearms on the water. I don't believe they can inforce that on state property unless its a courthouse or school. I am not real crazy about rocking the boat on this, after all being out on the water at any of the lakes around MS is not like walking down Ellis av or Hwy 80 near the old Coca Cola plant. It just bothers me a little, not a lot. Natchez state park lake is a park and I carry on the water when I go down there. We have a carry law covering parks.

I'm not a Rez kinda guy...too many jet ski's out there...but seems like I remember hunting green wing teal on the Ross Barnett long long ago....a shotgun is a firearm aint it?

Maybe the laws have changed.

They also have gator hunts....shot guns sure used there...not sure if its the rez per se or not...maybe just the Pearl River

I'd call this number right here and ask
601-992-9894.

I'd kinda consider my boat to be kinda like my car...part of my domicile....

Be sure to tell em you have a valid MS Firearms Permit

Oh Yeah

Thanks for all the welcome's and replies. I'll make some calls and try and find out something. Its public waters and I don't believe they have grounds to restrict it. I'll let you know what I find out.
