Starting a Petition
Has anyone thought about starting a petition to get the concealed carry statute (97-37-1) changed? I've been writing letters to my congressmen but surely it's going to take more than a few citizens to persuade our lawmakers.

Re: Starting a Petition
The change i had in mind initially was the "concealed in whole or in part" phrase of 97-37-1. However, getting HB 506's provisions to apply to educational property seems more promising. I have very little experience with petitions but I might be able to draft one. Are there any special procedures that i should know to get one going?

It certainly does need work. I can't promise what I'll sign till I read it though.

Re: Starting a Petition
Having a daughter in school, I would lean toward HB506 but draft it up and like Phillip said, if I like what I read, I'll sign them. Thanks for getting involved in the politics of gun ownership, we've moved along greatly but need to keep going forward less we fall back.

Re: Starting a Petition
Here is my draft for the petition (see attachment). I have decided to go with trying to get the provisions of HB 506 to apply to educational property (i.e. Campus Carry). Please feel free to offer any suggestions and tips. This is my first petition, so I'm sure it needs some work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Starting a Petition
Suggest substituting the word "change", mentioned twice in your petition, to say "amend". Legislatures are all about amending things, not changing them.
Re: Starting a Petition
Thanks for the suggestion. Ive gotten a few signatures so far. I'm really hoping that our legislature gets this, along with other gun rights issues, sorted out. As of now, our senate seems more promising.

Re: Starting a Petition
HB 881 added the same language as HB 506. You might add it to strengthen the case.

Re: Starting a Petition
Anybody having any luck with signatures? I have a few but with work taking up most of my time, I'm not able to get out and about as much. mjfox6, thanks for the tip. I'll upload an edited version as soon as I can.
