June 2011 American Rifleman magazine....

Post by Kevin346 on Tue May 24, 2011 3:50 am

How many of yall get American Rifleman in the mail? Got my June 2011 edition today and I enjoy reading “The Armed Citizen” section. To my surprise, two of the stories this month were from Mississippi. One was about a guy who tried to rob two people at gunpoint at a bank in Jackson and the passenger of the vehicle shot the robber. It was dated 2/24/11. The other was from Pearl and was about two guys who tried to rob a jewelry store. Apparently, the two guys were illegal aliens and were shot by store manager. One died and the other was critically injured. Apparently, this store was robbed two weeks prior. That story was dated 3/23/11.

First time I heard about both of these incidents. I guess it goes to show you that you better watch who you try to rob in Mississippi.

Both were discussed on this forum. The two in Pearl were in drag.

Yeah, I get the magazine. To be honest, the articles describing guns rarely interest me. Seems like they cover weird guns. I suppose the 1911 has been "done".

I do read the articles about folks using guns to save their lives, and I like them.

I don't hunt; so the NRA hunting magazine is of no interest to me.

I do enjoy reading the armed citizen stories.
I tried the electronic version, but switched back to the paper one too because it's easier to take to the bathroom that way. Smile

Some of y'all would probably like the NRA's magazine for collectors, or at least it used to be an NRA publication: Man at Arms. It has great photography and they go in-depth about the guns they feature, not fluff pieces like Guns and Ammo or Shooting Times. It's more about the history and development. A few months - a year ago they did a good article on collecting the M1 Garand. I read about M1 rifles I had never know existed. Here's the website:

I get American Rifleman monthly, I always read The Armed Citizen. It's a great boost to read about good people laying the hurt down on the scum. Some of the gun articles are meh..and I rarely read all of them, but they often do very good historical pieces that I have learned a lot from.

Saving my June version for the weekend like I usually do. I do both American Rifleman and Guns magazine per membership/subscription and digital. Also get American Handgunner digital version. I always like to read the Armed Citizen section first. There seems to have been more from MS in the last year.

Back when der Junge was maybe 7 and his sister was 9 they both would grab the American Rifleman when they got the mail and read "The Armed Citizen" column before I ever got my hands on it. They still do(now 16 and 18)! It's the first thing I read as well.

Okay...I picked it up and am reading them now. That Jackson, MS Commander mentioned in the second story is one of those good ones with JPD. Used to come into our shop once-in-awhile for a part or two. But you gotta love that first story.
