Magnolia Vintage Bolt-Action HP Match Results & Report... (5-28-11)
First, I extend my CONGRATS to Zink on winning back-to-back HP matches at Magnolia (and a week apart). Zink, you are up here so much lately, you might want to rent an apartment.............

Pending M1GarandFan's verification.
Yes, today's HP was for the old Vintage Bolt-Action rifles. There was a wide varity of rifles in today's match.
Here are some of them....................... (Sorry, I didn't take pictures of all of them)

We start with the match winner's Swede M1896 in 6.5mm.

M1GF's 1903-A3.

Shack's 1903-A3. Poor Shack broke a receiver bolt today and had to borrow another 03 to finish the match.

DMC49's 1903-A3. Poor DMC49 cracked his stock (near receiver) today. Not a good day for '03s today..............

A "crowd pleaser".... the M44. Not only does the M44 make BIG fireballs on almost every shot, it has the LOUDEST BOOM on the line.....
And yes, the M44 kicks like a mule................

Brutus' new M39. Ole "B" did pretty well for the first HP match with his new rifle.

Zink (on right) showing DMC49 the finer points of Brutus' M39.

And finally... we have my Yugo Mauser. Needless to say, I am very pleased with my Yugo.....
I was shooting Yugo 1950s ammo today and my Slow-fire Prone target was this....................

Yes, this target made me feel GOOD at the start of today's HP match. My R-P score wasn't too bad, but things went down-hill from there....

Relay 1 rifles on the line. Sorry, I didn't get a picture of Relay 2.
Another FUN Hi-Power match at Magnolia.................. Thanks M1GF.

I can't believe this. I was cursing a lot (in Deutsch AND Englisch!) about my shooting with my favorite Swede. After I saw sgf and Phillip M's slow fire prone scores in the first round, I resigned myself to making this match a "practice" . . . guess I wasn't the only one having a less than stellar day with the vintage bolt rifles. Here's my SF prone target:

And us doing the cross-leg balancing act before rapid fire sitting:

We actually made it into position without falling down:

and of course the last stage, the "off(al) hand":

Here I am peering into the spotting scope thinking "where in the h&ll did that round go????"

Thanks again to Magnolia R&P for running a smooth, fun, and above all SAFE match. We always enjoy your hospitality when we drive up to Byram to shoot with y'all, a great atmosphere of fellowship with fellow collectors and shooters of these rifles.

"Mauser flinch" wreaked havoc with my shooting I am afraid.
Very fun match though, thanks to all who work hard at putting these together!

Thanks for posting the scores and pictures SubGunFan. That was an excellent score on the slow fire prone stage. There are two scores that don't match what I have. My .303 Enfield slow fire prone should be 115 and M. Lansford's slow fire prone should be 101. Can't wait for the next Vintage Match. I plan to get both of my rifles dialed in soon.
Thanks for posting up pictures and congrats on the win, Scharfschuetze. Glad you and Kelly B. came up to shoot with us again.
Also a big thanks to everyone for helping get it set up and then taking it down. It really is good to have help.

Uh oh, somebody wrote it down wrong. Sorry about that. Guess I should have double checked.

That match was a lot of fun.
I was lucky in that I didn't have any Mosin clip trouble except in slow-fire prone. I doctored up my clips a bit with some graphite from a pencil and they worked just fine for the rapid-fire stages.
Definitely have to work on my rapid-fire prone. I usually shoot about the same thing across the board if you adjust the slow-fire prone back to a ten-round score, but that 45 in RP was way out of line with 67.5 slow prone (adjusted), 70 sitting, and 66 standing.
Had fun as usual.
Now I've gotta get my FR-8 straightened out so I can shoot it some time. The front sight must be WAAAAY outta whack. At 200 yards it shoots a tad high with the rear sight on the 100 yard setting.
