Another 9mm Question

Post by Evil Zim on Mon May 30, 2011 4:36 pm

I am going to be reloading 9mm with 124 grain cast bullet. My question concerns what powder to use. In looking through the charts in the Lee book, it gives a number of options without any particular criteria as to using one over the other. All I am reloading is 9mm (and maybe 38 Special later) and I just need some expert, or moderately expert advice as to which powder to go with. Any brand or type easier to use or measure?

I use Win 231 (HP-38). Not saying 231 is the best, just what I have used for many years.

Bullseye is the cheapest to use. I loaded 3.2 in a .38 special and for plinking or range work use the same amount in 9mm. This cycles my Glock and Beretta without a lot of abuse to the frames. I have to use 3.6 to cycle the H&K USP. It may smoke a little more than other powders but is the cheapest per shot if you are looking for more bang for your buck.

Can't you use Unique for both? I've had pretty good results with it in 9mm

231 works well in the 9mm and .38 special.

Unique works in 9mm....look for more smoke than Bullseye though.
