New Proposed .22 rf rifle and pistol match

Post by Doug Bowser on Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:04 am

This is a program for a .22 rf rifle and pistol match I would like to conduct at the Southwest Gun Club this Fall. Let me know what you think of it.

RULES FOR RUGER .22 RF RIFLE AND PISTOL MATCH

WHERE:

Southwest Gun Club’s McComb Range facility. It is 6 miles East of McComb, MS on US Highway 98. When driving from McComb, drive East on US98 until you see the Homestead turnoff sign. Drive 2 miles further and the entrance to the range is on the North side of the road. If driving from Tylertown, MS, drive past the Bogue Chitto River Park and look for a roadside market on the right. The range road is 2.2 miles past the store, on the right. The name of the range road is Edna Drive.

WHAT:

An informal rifle and pistol tournament designed to take advantage of the rapid fire capabilities of sporting semi-auto rifles and handguns.

FIREARMS:

Any safe .22 long rifle caliber rifle with iron sights or telescope. Telescopes must have a magnification of 6X or less. Variable telescopes may be used if set on 6X or less. No laser sights. Maximum weight with sights 8.5 pounds.

Any safe .22 long rifle caliber pistol or revolver with iron sights.

AMMUNITION:

Any safe .22 rf cartridges may be used. .22 short, long or long rifle. No .22 Winchester Magnum or .17 rf ammo allowed. No tracer bullets allowed.

Course of fire:

6 rounds fired on the Action Pistol falling plates in this order:

1-6-2-5-3-4

6 rounds will be loaded in the rifle or pistol and the shooter will start with the firearm on the table in a loaded and ready condition with the safety on.

Each firearm will be fired in separate stages.

The distance to the targets with the rifle will be 60 yards. The distance to the targets with pistol will be 35 yards.

All rifle shooting will be done standing with no part of the body touching the table. Slings may not be used.

All pistol shooting will be done one or two handed with no part of the body touching the table.
SCORING:

The shooter that has the fastest time, timed by a stop timer, and hits all the plates will win first place. The rest of the shooters that clean the plates will be scored in order of the fastest times.

Shooters that miss a plate or plates will be put in a lower category such as:

5 hits

4 hits

3 hits

In these categories, the fastest time will win the category and the remaining times will be in order of the fastest times.

I think this will be a good fun event. It will emphasize speed with accuracy.

Our club has 5- Ruger 10/22 rifles set up with 2.5x10x42mm Tasco scopes. We also have 5-Ruger mark III 5.5” target .22 LR pistols. They will be available at the range for club member’s and first time shooter’s use.

Sounds fun. How about using no magnification red dots on rifles?

Any optical sight with a magnification lower than 6X is allowed, That would cover a red dot sight.

This sounds like a blast! Would you seperate irons and scopes into different groups for a fair challenge? Anyways I would definitely try to travel down to shoot and probably bring my junior shooters too.

We always seperate iron sights and telescopes in our matches, except for NRA Bullseye Pistol.
