CMP Highpower Match at Magnolia this Saturday (6/11/11)
We are having the M-1 Garand match at Magnolia this Saturday. We are starting at 8:00 a.m. in order to try and get through before the mid-day excessive heat (anybody that went to McCain will know what I mean) plus take advantage of the shade from the trees. I plan to bring .30-06, .223, and .308 ammo so if you need ammo that I need to bring, let me know. If you are coming, please try and get there around 7:30 a.m. in order to fill out scorecards and get set up. Any help getting set up would be much appreciated. Hope to see you guys there.

I'm questionable for this one, Johnny.
About 75% sure I'll have to work again this coming weekend.
I'll have a better idea toward the end of the week.

In it to win it! Real men shoot when it gets hot and windy so put me down for both if we have two relays.
I have a very interesting new toy I may debut if its gets here in time.

Is there any reason we can't have some shade tents? I'll go buy one, or better yet, chip in $20 - $25 so the club could buy some. We're having such great turnout this year I would hate to start losing folks because of the heat. On days I don't have to go to work, I'll take my turn on the the second relay.

I'll check and see if we can do that. That would definitely help people shooting the second relay. It'll still be hot, but at least the sun wouldn't be beating down on shooters.

Shade tents: if you follow NRA rules, no competitor can have such unless ALL have shade. It's not against the rules if everyone has shade. Y'all are using CMP rules, so not sure that's even an issue, but in NRA matches if a competitor puts up a shade umbrella, for example, the RO has to make them remove it unless every competitor has one. But if you have enough shade for all it's ok: the F-Class matches at SWGC use 2 sets of shade tents, one for the firing line and one for the spotters.

We just need to talk the club into putting a shed over that whole area of the firing line. It's the only part of the range that's NOT under cover, except for the back 40 pistol range.
Problem solved!

Yeah, but we need relief THIS year. Things tend to progress slowly there.

Re: CMP Highpower Match at Magnolia this Saturday (6/11/11)
If y'all do put up a roof, don't do like the founders of SWGC: our roof on the covered 100yd range is only like 8 feet maybe 9 feet high. When you are shooting an M1 Garand match that = MASSIVE CONCUSSION WAVE! Actually firing any center-fire rifle under that low roof produces that concussion effect.
If you put a roof over that 200 yd rifle firing line at Magnolia R&P it should be high enough that there is no concussion from the muzzle blast. If y'all have fired at the McComb 100yd range you know what I am talking about!

There will be NO ROOF over the HP firing line. The extended roof is the longrange firing line (behind the HP firing line).
