Nagant Pistol - Whatcha Think?

Post by PapaDawg on Sat Jun 11, 2011 10:14 am

Don't know why, but I'm thinking about ordering one of these. Guess it's another "aw what the hell moment." Pros / cons, yea / nay?

Thanks for your advice and everyone have a wonderful weekend -

I've heard most of the cheap surplus ammo has dried up. Also heard it's one of the few revolvers that can be successfully suppressed.

You can get a .32 ACP replacement cylinder for it. No need for surplus ammo if you have one.

I have one. Aim has plenty of ammo for it. It goes bang and it's kinda neat the way the cylinder moves forward.

Maybe if I got another one I could talk Eaglestroker into making me a fancy 2-gun western rig.

I have one made at Izhevsk in 1945. It has a refinish marking on it. I converted it to use .32-20 brass. The ammo has to be loaded 1/10" short to function. The ammo loaded commercially is very loose in the chamber of the original Nagant revolver and they back out when the revolver is fired. This causes binding on the revolver I have. The .32-20 cylinder does not have this problem. The rechambering reamer is about $125 and it does not take much to ream the 7.62x34r chamber to .32-20. I use Hornady 90 gr HBWC bullets in it The accuracy level with 2 hands at 25 yards is 4". It makes a nice truck gun. I paid $50 for the one I have now.

Once the cylinder has been converted to .32-20, the original 7.62x34r ammo will still work in it.

The .32 ACP cylinders do not work very well and are usually badly out of time.

I'm waiting on my C&R, and I've already decided one of these, and a Mosin Nagant rifle will be my first purchases when it gets here. Today is 31 days after they say they received it, 43 after the post office says they received it.

Got a couple of these. Nice firing revolvers. I like them because of the unique action!

I used to have one of these. I gave it to my father because he thought it was the neatest thing since sliced bread. In double action, it has a 20 pound trigger pull (but it only feels like 50).

But they're a lot of fun if you can find ammo.
