Garand 175 loads
Anyone shooting 175's in their Garand? I was recently, very generously, given a few hundred Nosler CCHP 175's by SGMJody. I'm working on a 175 SMK load for my .308, so I was thinking about trying these in my Garand in case I ever get to shoot a High Power match that allows reloads.

Re: Garand 175 loads
In 1963 the NM load was 46.7 gr 4895 2640 FPS 173 gr bullet.
If there is any rifle that has had more load development than any other, it has to be the Garand. In a nutshell optimum results will be 46.5 H or IMR4895 or 47.0gr IMR4064 +/- .5gr for 168 and 175 grain bullets.

...these loads are all safe for the Garand system, but FYI read the sticky http://www.msgunowners.com/t1686-reloading-service-rifles-safety-concerns

All NRA and CMP EIC matches allow reloads. Some, like the southwest gun club, require shooters to all fire the same ammo in John C Garand matches to level the playing field. If you are going to shoot the Garand at an across the course match (XTC) where you are firing from 200,300, and 500 or 600 yards, save the 173's for the 500 or 600 and use 168's at 200 and 300.
