Think about a .45
I have been thinking hard about a .45 lately. 1911's are the heavy favorite, but I was looking around at the other 45's out there.
Higher round count, better egronomics.....I guess I am looking for your thoughts and suggestions.
BTW, I am trying to keep this under the $600 range.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Think about a .45
you could find a springfield or para ordnance hi-cap 1911. just a thought, but some people really like them. i had a para p16, but i sold it to fund another purchase. it was a pretty good shooter though. paras will probably be a little over your budget for a nice one, but an older one or the springfield version should be out there in that price range.

Instead of thinking, you should have been jumping on the one on the classifieds that just sold.

Higher round count 45's are too dang heavy and fat in the grip. If the wunder 9 folks brag on more shots say .45's do not need to be double tapped, eight (7+1) 230 grain 45's is the same weight downrange as 16 9mm and you only have to shoot half as many shots!
There is one 45 that is better than a 1911, the Thompson SMG, but those are a little pricey!

Paid less than $500 for my Springfield XD Tactical .45 and I love to shoot it. The grips are similar to me to the 1911A1 that I also have (paid less than $500 for it too).

I've got a Sig p220. You can find them used for 600-ish occasionally. I like 1911's, but I wouldn't mind having another 220.
I've shot the XDM and really like it too.
The Taurus 1911's are hit or miss from what I hear too. I shot one and it was fine, although my el-cheapo Metroarms 1911 shot just as well. The guy who owns the Taurus 1911 that I shot has since put in newer Wilson parts (just like I've done on the Metroarms).

i'm gonna have to back up. i'd say that if you're hard set on the $600 budget, go with the xd(m). although there are some pretty good 1911's in that price range, you're probably (definately) going to want to add options to it or get a model that comes with the nicer grip safety, sights, msh, and thumb safety. if you don't have a problem with adding them later on, go with a springfield g.i. or something along those lines. if you want a one stop shop, go xd(m).

Re: Think about a .45
I bought a springfield GI for my first handgun. I decided to start off with 45. I am a tinkerer so i knew i would want to work on it and I didnt wanna drop $700 on my first gun and mess it up not knowing how to take care of a gun. I believe i got mine for just over $400-425 and I have added all new internals except for the barrel. I also put my on sites on!
I would recommend going ahead and getting a model with decent sights if you have that choice. My GI came with the horrible military sights.
I now own two very nice kimbers, one is a custom shop. Be careful getting a 1911, you will get addicted
. I am trying to get my local shop to get ahold of a sig tactical 1911, so that would be my fourth one
If you find a used p220, you will not go wrong grabbing that up either! I believe you can get a used one easy under your budget. I own a stainless p220 also and they are works of art. Those guns were built for 45 just like a 1911.

Love the 21SF. I don't know how many rounds i've put thru mine but I know how many malfunctions I've had NONE!! I have put every kind of ammo thru it you can think of with no problems.

Re: Think about a .45
if higher round count and ergonomics are of primary concern just go find an xd(m) and be done.
I love my glock and will never complain about it but owning both my hat tips to the springfield
