Re: Think about a .45
Well, I did go to Mitch's yesterday. I narrowed it down to 2. I took them both out to the range, and tried them out. I did like the Taurus OSS W/5.25 barrel, but I got a smoking deal on a Springfield XD Compact with the 10 & 13 round mag and XD gear. I was suprised how well this thing handled.
Not sure what I was expecting from a .45, (first time)but I can tell you this. My Taurus 709 with +P ammo is more of a handfull than this one. One hand double taps are no problem.
Thanks guys,
Paul

I have a Kimber in that price range, but do not really like the spring capture that must be done at every field strip. Also took about 500 rounds before no jammed feeds.
The .45 round itself, in my opinion, is the near perfect defense round. Not too powerful, will likely not over penetrate. It is relatively slow, so will expend energy in the target. It is nearly 1/2" in dia. to begin with and expands with hollow points to about 3/4". Finally, when NATO etc. converted to the 9mm, they had to teach to shoot in groups of 3 to be effective. The .45 is more humane in that one round is sufficient.

Re: Think about a .45
How about a S&W M&P .45? I saw one compact at the gun show this weekend for $550. I ended up getting the full-size M&P .45 Tactical model for $599. Only difference between the regular & Tactical is the Tactical comes with the regular 4.5" barrel & a 5" threaded barrel w/thread protector. Only problem is now I have to save up for a can for it! Not really a "problem"! BTW, The M&P has a 10 rd mag, so it's not TOO hand-filling. It's slimmer than my Glock 17.
It's all about what YOU want, though. Good luck!
