Hello from the deep south

I live in South America but will be moving to the US this year. I have an opportunity to either live out of Alabama or Mississippi and would prefer MS because of the people that I have met and my family would enjoy it more as they are big fans of the coast. I may ask a lot of ignorant questions because I have not lived in the US for almost 15 years and a lot has changed since I left. In all of my vacations with my daughters, they all loved Mississippi the best. I am a seventh generation Texan but I am hoping that y'all won't hold that against me. I would like to live in an older small town that is north of I10 but does not have a Super Walmart. If you have any places that are historical and have reasonable prices, I would like to live near a downtown area that would be safe for a growing family. If you could live anywhere in Mississippi, where would you live? It is great to see your state finally moving up to speed on gun laws and I am looking forward to making Mississippi our home.

Clinton is a good place to live. Good schools, low crime, nice historical downtown area.

I would recommend somewhere in the northeast portion of Mississippi. Oxford is very nice. Anywhere between Oxford and the Alabama-Tennessee state lines would be OK.
By the way, I love Texas and Texans.

I noted in your post the family is a big fan of the MS Gulf Coast ... just how far north of I-10 are you considering? Many nice little towns (without a Walmart) just north of I-10!! I am sure a couple of our coast guys/gals will chime in ....
