i agree with most everything above. however, i was in your position a while back and i decided to just spend the $$$$ and have one built the way i wanted it. it'll cost you now, but i'd rather have one really nice gun just the way i want it instead of buying/selling/modding different ones until i'm content. i called bob serva from fusion firearms, told him what i wanted, and he delivered (about 5 months later of course, LOL). you can see some pics of mine in the firearms gallery. if you're looking for a higher end gun ($1500+) built to your specs, i'd recommend fusion all day long.

I had a Llama years ago haha. It wasnt accurate but it never had a malfunction and i never cleaned it. Traded a pheonix 22 and 200 bucks for it. I put a few thousand rounds thru it without one hiccup.
Traded it off a few years ago.

Just got a SA 1911 yesterday. Gonna shoot it a lil bit when we get to Kansas this afternoon. And all weekend at the machine gun shoot.
I dont know enough about them to give an opinion.

I did get to shoot a few Kimbers that all 3 wouldnt run a full mag thru without having issues.

My favorite was a RRA National Match. That thing nice and slick and would shoot very tiny groups at 25yds. Put over 750rds thru it that day and fell in love. He wouldnt let me buy it either.

Yep! My first 1911 was a Kimber Compact Aluminum and carried it for years. I will always have a special place in my heart for it. However, I got the opportunity to shoot a BAER once and decided I had to have one. Saved a few pennies and acquired the Concept 5. There are many good custom 1911 makers out there, but for the dollar I think LES BAER offers the most gun. Saving now for a Thunder Ranch Special.

Take a look at Smith & Wesson 1911's. I've had good luck with them.
