glock guide rod???????????

Post by LowLight on Mon Jun 20, 2011 12:55 am

looking at getting a lonewolf ss guide rod or a tungsten guide rod, my question is which one is better? i have had the ss guide rods in the past and really liked them over the factory guide rods. Plastic guide rods just seem like bad idea to me. is the tungsten worth the money over the ss???

I've never had an issue with the factory ones in any of the ones I've owned. I'm guessing here, but the tungsten one is probably more for the extra weight up front. Function wise I see no difference.

Can't say which of the two is better. Either is better than the plastic imo.

It's not that the plastic ones don't work, they do. What they do is bow under recoil.

Glock is like all manufacturers, it's all about keeping cost down. Which is just good business.

Nothing wrong with improving an already good weapon. No matter who the manufacturer is.

Since you have already tried the SS one, try the Tungsten one this go around. Just might like it better, if not it probably won't put you on foodstamps to get the SS and sell the Tungsten.

Either will work. You're really just putting more weight in the front end to reduce muzzle flip. Proper grip goes a long way, much more than a metal guiderod when accomplishing that.

Also, a little skateboard tape in a just the right places helps.

to add to what cliff has to say. Tungsten is going to be heavier than the SS rod. If this is purely a range gun, or a defensive gun, then I would not get the Tungsten rod. Tungsten is more brittle, and can break, which is why it can be acceptable on a comp gun. If it's a gun you are going to bet your life on, don't put a tungsten rod in it.

I would go with the SS if it were I, but I've never broke one of the factory ones, so I really don't see the need to change it. Put the money toward some good adjustable sights is where I'd go. Buy a spare factory rod for 7 bucks just in case and shoot away.
