found a new(i think) gripmaker....niiiiiiiiiiice!!!!!

Post by jakeg823 on Mon Jun 20, 2011 11:49 pm

i'm usually a functional grip kinda guy(such as VZs) when it comes to my guns, but i appreciate nice exotic woods as well, such as esmeralda's and sarge's(from thefinergrain.com). I found this guy in the DW subforum at 1911forum.com, complimenting another user's gun/grips/holster, and i followed the link in his signature to see what his work looked like, and wow! i like!!!!

i shot him a pm to compliment him on him, and mentioned that i noticed he also carries m1911 knives and how i'd been wanting one of those as well, etc etc...he pm'd me back within about 10 mins(says a lot about a person/business these days), and he said he'd just become a distributor for the m1911 knives, etc...i asked him a couple more questions as well, about his work, so i'll update w/ what he responds with. He seems like a nice guy, and is just a small shop, with prices on par with Esmaralda and Sarge($80-100 range).

Not doin this to advertise but just to pass on the word about what appears to be a fine product! whenever i get a 1911 worthy of a nice set of grips i'll be purchasing some from this guy!

I like the 1911 knife, I have always wanted one since Bill Wilson's son made some years ago. Didn't know someone else was building them too. Pretty good prices on the knives.

They're fairly new. Grips are interchangeable with any 1911 grips, so folks can match with their guns if so desired. My brother is claiming he's going to buy me one for graduation. Ultimate Equipment is the manufacturer. I've been corresponding with Terry, the owner/creator of the knives, and he seems to he a heckuva nice guy and extremely helpful! They come in full size, compact/officers, and fixed blade(full size grips)

BCG said he doesn't have any knives in stock just yet, he's waiting on a few orders to determine the demand before placing a large order.

I like the fact that the buyer is allowed so much input into the finish of the grips. He basically has his pieces of wood waiting for the order before he makes/shapes and finishes them according to his site
