who would be interested in a prarie dog hunt in east tx one weekend.
i had talked to captain at a postal match a few weeks ago about shootin some p dogs. my uncle has some cattle land outside carthage tx ( about 45 min west of shrevesport, la). I talked to a game warden in tx, he advised me that we can kill as many p dogs as we can see but we would have to buy a 5 or 7 day small game license. if i remember corectally it was 20 bux for that out of state licenses. just need your state id and buy them. small insurence pollicy to keep her legal. Carthage is a nice size town with your typical hotels, resturants, and what not. i told captian i would get with my uncle in the next day or so, he was checking with the guy leasing the majority of his land. as a kid i remember hunting gophers out there and killing lots of them. i am almost positive we can take anything up to a .223. i had mentioned alot of us had ars that wanted to go elswhere. it would be good lil weekend trip for some of us i think drive out on friday hunt and fish saturday go hang out somewhere sat night and truck it home sunday morning. its about a 4 to 4 1/2 hr drive.
we could set it up when it starts to cool off some. just let me know what yall think. i can take 3 people with me 4 if 3 of yall really like each other lol.

What range would you be shooting at? I ask b/c I don't own a firearm I could justify shooting over 200 yards, cost wise. I hear your burn a lot of rounds. Does the small game cover coyotes? If you're not sure, I can look it up. Daughter is due very soon and I will be there for that. I'm from Florence, just up the road.

ok we goy 5 or so wanting to go ill call him tomorrow ill say 5 for sure and 8 or so.
i remember hunting them as a kid with a 22 and had a blast. there are 2 BIG ponds and several smaller ones out there as well. good thing about this place is there is some shade and they keep the cattle moving from pasture to pasture so the grass is short and plenty of land to pop them buggers on.
i plan on takin my 10 22 and maybe a lil bigger gun to get some longer yardage shots in just for good measure. and a fishin pole too some nice size bass in them ponds.

What kind of range are the shots...what would be typical...what would be considered "long" for that area

Re: who would be interested in a prarie dog hunt in east tx one weekend.
on a clarification on caliber i would say nothing bigger than a .223 without having asked yet. and any shotgun if you wanted to go that rout as well. if the cows were not around at all i would say does anyone have a "ma duce" we can play with lol. i will call tomorrow around noon and have more info. will also get the exact price of the out of state licenses.
a long shot ( not knowing whitch pastures the cows are in) would be 200 maybe 250 yards better have a good set of eyes. personally i have never killed one at more than 100 yards or so. the land aint flat it rolls pritty good in some places. some of the land has some nice flatter places where it was stripmined some 20 to 25 years ago. thats where i remember killing the most pdogs
