Yeah the mossberg "ar 22" is just plain ugly. I'm not a big s&w fan but I'd say go with the 15/22 for sure.

the 15-22 is far better IMO, but is close to twice the price...

the mossberg would give you the look, but not the feel of an AR...

S&M 15/22 blue springs

Post by davonwav on Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:35 pm

I'd go S&M 15/22 for sure. I have been very happy with mine no problems with 750+rnds & online you will find they have a great track record. Be sure & get one with "blue springs" on bolt as that was a fix after the first few were released! After I added 'tactical-dactical' it weighs almost as much as my Bushmaster. My advice is put $ in extra 25rnd mags & not tactical weight that looks awesome but not so useful for 22.

My wife bought me the Mossberg last Christmas. Here is my take on it. Absolutely NOTHING like an AR. Has NO similar functions. It is a Mossberg 702 with some plastic around it. The handle is fixed so if you want to put optics on it (I have a red/green dot on mine) it sits way too high. I like it for what it is, a plinker, and it will eat any type of .22 Ammo but I should have thrown in the other $150 and bought the 15/22. I bought it in November online, in December Academy had the 15/22 on sale for $359. If I wouldnt have had to go through a bunch of rigamarole I would have sent it back and got the S&W.

If your just looking for a tactical 22 but don't want to spend the money on the 15/22, I would suggest the route I went. I was really set on getting a 15/22 MOE to match my Bushmaster MOE but when it came time to spend $500 I reallized all I wanted was a great 22, light weight, all black, high capacity, suppressor capable, shoot any kind of 22. I bought a Ruger 10/22 Tactical. This gun is always been a favorite of mine since I already have an one. I wanted a 22 I could run stages with economically. A little run and gun. It comes blacked out, synthetic stock, threaded barrel, w/flash suppressor, no sights(optic ready and light as it gets! I love it! Also another option is the 10/22 with tapco stock.

I have the 10/22 with the archangael kit on it. Fun little gun, and like you said, you can return it to stock very easily.
