Post by butch86 on Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:34 pm

i got my first mossin today its the M91/30 when it was rearmered it is stamped
M91/30 russia 7.62x54r
georgia vt
9130xxxxxxx
thats stamped on the side of the chamber i will call thet the new info and serial number

the top of the barrel has some other markings and another serial number ( original ) i am assuming.
8689UU this number is on the bolt and the trigger assy/ magizine clip. there are also some other stamped markings. one is a square with a slash through it another is a triangle with an arrow inside it. and some of the others look like some of the armerment stamps from earlier dates.

can someone help me with these markings. thanks

i will post pics tomorrow i get my m44 sunday.

at least the m91 shoots a nice group at 40 yards. will have to take it to the range to stretch its legs and see if it will group at 100 and farther.

Sounds like you are going to need a few spam cans of 7.62x54R ammo soon......

Square with a slash is a metal refinish marking. Triangle with arrow inside means it was made at Izhvesk in Russia,

thanks doug is there any way from the serial number to run down the date it was made.

also i am looking to start collecting some of these as i run up on deals. i would like a website i could study up on them. i dont wanna get ripped a new one because i do not know enough about them to buy on my own.

like this m91/30 and M44 i pick up sunday i gave the guy $250 for both and they came with about 100 rounds. and a small ammo can of brass. so i figured not to bad of a deal. and the M91 seems to shoot really straight so far. plus i like that flame out the barrel. gad to shoot it a few times in the dark to see it.

and the spam ammo is a definate.

Most 91/30 I have seen actually have the date stamped on the receiver just below the arsenal marking?

You have many models of Moisin Nagant rifles you can collect

1891 by Izhevsk, Tula, Chatteleraiult and Sestroyetsk
1912 Carbine same makers except Chattelerault
1891 Dragoon
91 Finn
91/24 Finn
1927 Finn
1928 Finn
1928/30 Finn
1939 Finn
1944 Carbine by Tula and Izhevsk
Type 53 Chinese (M44)
M44 Polish
M91/59 Bulgarian carbine
M91/38 Czech converted from M91 rifles
M38 Russian Carbine.

There are many others as well but these are the most common models. Have fun,

Doug

Hey Doug -

What's your opinion on the M44 Polish? Ran across one the other day and since I'm in the market for an M44 this caught my eye. Thanks

The M44 Polish nagants are the best finished of all of them. I have fired quite a few and they are as accurate as they are purdy.

Doug
PS Purdy is spelled that way for SGF
