when did heritage start putting safeties on their guns?

Post by Joe S. on Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:56 pm

I sure hope this isn't a trend! :Smile

I was lookin at a heritage single action 22lr/ mag the other day and noticed it has a hammer block safety on it. It is a switch to the left of the hammer.

Man I hope other revolvers don't follow suit. It was not becoming of that revolver AT ALL

I don't like the safety on a single action revolver. That's what the hammer is for IMO. On a DA revolver, maybe so, but I agree they look bad.

I don't understand. The safety on an old style single action is in how you handle the revolver. Hammer down on an empty chamber.

\The double action revolver has a built in safety in it. The trigger has to be pulled all the way to the rear to allow the revolver to fire.

We're not referring to the built in, fundamental safety function inherent to single action revolvers, but the external hammer block safety that Heritage is putting on their revolvers now. It's a lever at 9 o'clock on the rear of the revolver, opposite of the loading gate. I hope this link works.

I wouldn't have one after seeing that.

At first glance I was hoping it was the single 10. I was wrong.

Want to check em out

I just don't see the benefit of the safety on a revo... You don't want it to shoot, don't cock the thing. Maybe its for those who can't de-cock a gun?

Its like the people who argue a levergun is safer with the safety. Maybe in theory, but if you are careful to lower the hammer you won't have an issue and while unloading, if you keep your finger off the trigger, an AD just probably aint gonna happen...
