Any one shoot a 32 cal muzzle loader????

Post by doggoner on Tue Jun 28, 2011 12:03 pm

This is a picture of the first game taken with my 32 cal Traditions Deer Hunter. Fellas, if you want some FUN, hunt squirrels and other small game with a 32 cal muzzle loader! It's the most fun you can have with all your clothes on.

The young coon made a fine gumbo and the squirrel was added to the pile and became part of a squirrel stew. Makes me want to go hunting right now. I'll just have to wait for this fall.

My favorite is a little .40 caliber flintlock long rifle...have sent many critters to their maker with that rifle. Wink

I had a .32 Seneca by Thompson Center. It was very accurate but I let a friend borrow it and his house burned down and we lost the rifle. He offered to pay me for it but I felt he lost enough in the fire and the money would not break me anyway.

I shot several squirrels with it. It would shoot 1" at 50 yards and I got a LOT of round balls out of a 20 pound lead pot.

Doug

You are correct about cheap to shoot. I use 20 grains of pyrodex because that is the size of the dispenser tube on my flask but it shoots just as well with 10 grains. It too is an accurate gun, matching your "lost" gun in accuracy. This with open sites. Lets see--- 45 gr round ball, 7000 grains to a pound equals about 155 round balls and 10 grains of powder equals 700 loads. Caps about $3.50 a hundred, cheaper on sale. All in all a cheap shooting gun and SO MUCH FUN!!!

Q4570 has as much fun with his flintlock I would imagine. It's a great way to add some tasty critters to the pot and "kill" some paper too. It's a GREAT teaching tool for the grandkids as well. Mine have giggled more shooting the 32 cal than any gun they've shot.

I have a Thompson Center Hawken with a .32 cal Green Mountain barrel. It's a tack driver but heavy to tote around in the Squirrel woods.

Used to do it all the time in the 1970's. Have a friend who was really into it too. He very rarely ever missed with a .32 cal. flintlock.
