Springfield upgrades

Post by cottonmouth on Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:32 pm

Lets see what you guys and gals have done to your XD's. I just picked up an XD 40 and was thinking about some sights maybe, not sure yet.

I totally built my XD .40. Advantage sights are great. I love em. Try XD guys or pistol gear. Powder river performance is a big name. Mine runs great but doesn't like semi wad cutters, you have to crimp em kinda hard and load em long. I have the tactical and my wife has the service. Great guns. I'll get a pic up for ya.

The other two words: Springer Precision

I had Springer Precision do most of my work:
3.5 competition trigger
dawson adjustable sights
Barsto Barrel
clean up internals

I also installed an extended mag release, don's guide rod and the aluminum cocking indicator guide. To finish it off I had Birdsong refinish it with black and grey tiger stripes.

I stippled the frame (looks cool and useful), and installed a springer precision trigger kit (easy, smooth and light), added a extended slide release for my short thumb (easy), added an extended mag release (drilled and tapped original to accept an ed brown 1911 button) and added night sights (a royal nightmare).

..on sights I recommend getting springfield to install them. The sights on the xd's are so tight that its nearly impossible to remove and install yourself with a punch without damage to the sights or frame or both. You can buy the sight tool (expensive for one use) or pay springfield to do it. I did it myself and had to use a steel punch, vise, and still nearly destroyed the old sights getting them off and had to file the new ones down to get them to go in with normal pressure.

That stippling looks good! I'm thinking sights now for sure, after shooting it yesterday I noticed it shoots hight just like most Glocks do for me. There's a gun show next weekend and maybe there will be some parts there.

I blacked the sights on my xD(M)9. Mine shot high before and shoots to point of aim now.

A friend also slicked up the trigger and lightened a little.

I ordered my xd wih the heinie pro slant 8 night sights. And then put a springer percision trigger and sear in it. Its alot better now. Shorter pretravel, lighter pull and very short reset.

It shoots plenty well so i figured that was far enough on the mods. 29k rounds later she is still blasting.

Ha. I use to work 2nd shift 3pm-11pm. All my friends were either workin or in school so id go shoot every morning. Had weekly shipments from midwayusa.

Only part that has broken is the striker retainer pin. But i think thats mostly from dry firing it a few thousand times.

If you wanna check out the springer trigger lemme know.

I wouldn't mind looking it over but my hours are crazy this month. I might replace the sights and call it good but trigger work would be nice. I have a S&W M&P 40, Glock 22 and the XD 40, they all have a diffrent feel about 'em as far as the triggers. Weight, length of pull and reset are all sorta messy. The M&P is too heavy and the XD seems to need to be pulled back an inch before it will fire. I guess I like the Glock trigger the best but I noticed that when I dry fire it always has a twitch or jerk to it no matter how I pull the trigger, may just need a few more rounds down the pipe to smooth it out.
