good hunting bullet for .30 carbine?
the book i have says it is inadequate, but i am gonna let my wife deer hunt with 30 carbine this year. it doesnt kick her and she can hit with it... gonna stick to head shots. that way, if she misses, she misses totally, and if she hits, it is DRT...
that said, i need to get some ammo loaded up for her. what is a good hunting bullet for the 30 carbine?
i have some old remington soft points i can use if i have to but want the most effective bullet i can get.

You only choices are 110 fmj or sp.
My dad hunted with the m1 carbine using rem sp after he had back surgery.
Head shots on deer with irons is quite a tough shot. And if she hits low and takes out the jaw, its gonna be a rough one on the deer.
Heart/lung shot or shoulder shot is gonna be best. The m1 30 has enough to go thru the vitals at 100 but its not gonna be a thru and thru.

Yea didn't think about busting the jaw off...
Dang. Ok heart/ lung.
I will stick with our current supply then and start reloading later maybe. Its pretty cheap to buy bulk. Any point in reloading?

Not a great weapon choice for deer hunting...my predicition is you gonna wound deer and not find em
Your honey can handle a little harder hitting caliber with more bullet selection...get to practicing
You could possibly get someone on here who casts lead boolitts and loads em to make you a few hunting rds...see if Captain-03 will make you 10 to try out...I got confidence that a lead bullet will not pass thru as bad

She's a little scope shy. Think we gonna stick with irons for now.
Is it for a Universal carbine? I might be interested just to have it.

I've killed deer with the lowly carbine when I was a teen. Do not discount the little gun, multiple shots are quick and easy.
The only problem I ever had is when it gets near dusk the sights become useless, especially in the woods.

30/30 much better choice...don't sweat scope....
My 15 year old daughter had never shot a scope...put her on a 243 bolt and it was bulleye hits at 100 yards...
Its no biggie Joe S....get that trigger time

I want to say Federal at one time had a jacketed hollow point on the market.
I wouldn't discount the little carbine, it will most certainly kill a deer. Its more about being comfortable and accurate with the gun. I would encourage lung shots with it. The deer will run but won't go far. A lung shot is my preffered shot when bowhunting and never had the deer go more than 40/50yds before laying down then just wait it out. One thing that can be gained from bowhunting is I learned think about the exit more than the entrance especially hunting from heights.
Practice, practice and practice best advice for any shooting gun or bow.

You are limited to 90 to 110 grain bullets. Sierra 110 grain soft points work well but as most posts say....a little light for deer unless well placed shot.
